PRESS RELEASE
LEADING FORMER MET POLICE DETECTIVE INSPECTOR BOB PULL JOINS CCPAS
Former Detective Inspector Bob Pull has joined has the Churches’ Child Protection
Advisory Service (CCPAS) after 30 years service in the Metropolitan Police.
Bob’s role will include building links with existing CCPAS clients such as the Congolese
Pastorship and developing similar ties with other Christian and non-Christian faith
communities. He will also be liaising extensively with police services and local authority
childrens’ services throughout the country on behalf of CCPAS.
Following uniformed service at Westminster, Camden, Barnet and Islington, in February
2000 Bob was transferred to the Racial and Violent Crime Task Force to help implement
Recommendation 16 of the Stephen Lawrence Inquiry Report (To encourage the reporting
of Hate Crime through third parties).
His strong Christian faith enabled him to build trust and confidence between Black Majority
Churches and the police - a model that was later extended to include strategic links with all
faith communities.
For the final 18 months of his police career Bob was operational leader of Project Violet –
the Met Police’s response to the ‘witchcraft’ trial involving ‘Child B’. This involved partnering
statutory and voluntary agencies to safeguard children in places of worship. CCPAS have
played a pivotal role in supporting Bob’s police work – so far they have together trained 350
African church leaders and officials on child safety procedures.
David Pearson, Executive Director of CCPAS, said: “We are absolutely delighted that Bob
has accepted our invitation to join us on his retirement from the police. His experience and
expertise in some of the more challenging and sensitive areas of child protection will greatly
benefit CCPAS as we seek to protect vulnerable children.
“Until now, the main impetus in Project Violet child protection issues has been focused
almost entirely in London. CCPAS now intends to expand child protection in this key area
right across the country. This initiative, spearheaded by Bob, is therefore of vital national
importance.”
Bob Pull commented: “The support of my wife, 30 years policing experience and my
personal faith has equipped me to progress this work. I’m thankful that CCPAS has given
me the opportunity to continue my role in the voluntary sector. The trusting nature of faith
communities in general, together with the merging of new cultures from around the world,
makes child safeguarding in the UK complex. I look forward to the challenge to make a
difference through advice, consultancy and training, with of course the support and backing
of CCPAS.”
Most recently, Bob has trained members of the Street Pastors initiative in key aspects of
the law, including stop and search. He is also a consultant to the Haringey Peace Alliance.
Both projects aim to cut gun crime in the capital.
