SCENES Envisioning the Future of Water in Europe Dataset / Map Provision Form Dataset Title Change in BOD Loads from Urban Runoff Dataset Long Title Percentage change in annual BOD loads from urban runoff compared to 2005 for all socio-economic scenarios under IPCM4 climate Region Pan-Europe (Europe including the near East) Time Period 2025 and 2050 Scenario All Spatial Resolution Scenes Region Unit Percentage change relative to 2005 Short description of the dataset/map (What can be seen in the map?) Decreases in BOD loadings from Urban runoff are seen across all scenarios and for all SCENES regions. Largest reductions are seen for the Sustainability eventually scenario. Driving forces Short interpretation of the dataset/map (How do you explain the causes and resulting effects?) Underlying definitions Related Publications (references to papers, websites etc.) - Level of treatment - Urban Population - Urban runoff volume - Built-up area Decrease in loading is seen with increased level of treatment in sewage treatment works. All urban runoff from paved surface is assumed to enter drainage and is then treated. BOD load from urban areas is the amount of BOD that enters water courses from runoff generated by the hard surfaces found in urban areas. SCENES deliverables 3.2 (describes how loads are calculated) and D1.6 which explains how future values are calculated.
