LUMS ALUMNI HOMECOMING
October 26–28, 2001
Dear Friends,
To celebrate 15 years of LUMS, a Homecoming Weekend for the LUMS family is
being planned from October 26-28, 2001. We feel that our alumni, who have gone
through the LUMS experience and have spent memorable times here, are the best
people to celebrate the University’s achievements with. A number of academic and
social events are being planned to make this event an unforgettable one for
everyone.
The plan is to have a two-day program, as we want to give our alumni the maximum
time to interact with each other - revive old friendships, make new ones! However,
since a few alumni have shown reservations regarding a two–day program, we’ve
outlined an alternate one-day program as well. Both options are attached. Your
feedback as to which one is better is required by August 31, 2001. We’ll be
finalizing the program after this and mailing the registration forms to you all.
We plan to make the event meaningful and enjoyable. The highlights of the
activities planned are:
 A seminar on “Pakistani Managers in the Global Arena” to add some intellectual
flavor to the proceedings. We are very fortunate as the ‘inimitable’ Mr. Javed
Hamid, who is responsible for setting up this institution, that we all cherish so
much, and the first Director of the University, has agreed to specially come
from Hong Kong as the keynote speaker at the occasion. He is presently
working as a Director with the IFC and is looking after China and the Asian
Pacific region. Those of us, who have interacted with 'JH', as he is popularly
known, remember him as a highly dynamic person. This would give all the others
an opportunity to learn something from him as well.
 Presentations by alumni speakers on related issues
 To add to the nostalgia, a class session with a case study! This would be
conducted by some of our favorite faculty members…however, don’t stay up all
night worrying about it!!!
 “Abishma” revisited – skits by alumni
 Sports events like Badminton and Volleyball matches


Fun activities for kids. Special arrangements are being made to set-up a
nursery for anybody requiring help with baby-sitting.
A Grand Dinner and Sham-e-Ghazal.
Detailed schedules of alternate programs are attached. However, as things are still
being finalized, we would strongly encourage you to send ideas and suggestions to
make this event as interesting as possible. Your participation will be the first step
in this direction!!! To add to the fun we would like our alumni to perform short skits
in which they can reminisce about their class or their favorite faculty member. Any
body interested in organizing such skits, please contact me at the earliest so that a
time slot can be assigned to you.
I am sure all of you know how much it costs to finance such events. We are working
with friends of LUMS to arrange for sponsorships to finance this two-day program.
LUMS Alumni Relations Office will also be contributing towards the expenses.
However, with all the activities planned, we may still have to charge the alumni a
nominal registration fee. If you can help us in getting your companies to sponsor
this event, your effort would be highly appreciated.
For those alumni who will be coming from other cities, they can make their
reservations at the Rausing Executive Centre (REC). However, advance notice will
be required, as there are limited number of rooms. Alumni are entitled to a 25%
discount so REC charges are Rs.1600/room inclusive of breakfast.
All alumni are encouraged to bring their families. Please confirm your participation
by sending an email at nuzhatk@lums.edu.pk or alumni@lums.edu.pk. A quick
response from your side will help us in making the best possible arrangements.
Looking forward to hearing from you soon!
Best regards,
Nuzhat Kamran
