Prayer for Vocations O Lord of the Harvest, Bless with courage and spirit those who serve you as Priests, Deacons, brothers and Sisters. Keep them close to you. Make them ardent, yet gentle, heralds of your Gospel. Open the minds and hearts of many more to accept the challenge to build your Kingdom. Amen Mary Help of Christians, pray for us. Something new for our parish- we need your support: Please spread the word! Our Multi Cultural Christmas Gathering: Claim the day 12/13 Dec. A planning group is underway, to Celebrate preparing for Christmas in all our Nationalities. It is wonderful to sit around a meeting table with ideas from everyone. Reflect on a time when you were the recipient of a generous gesture by another. What was revealed about the giver in this gesture? How did you respond? Reflect on occasions when we have been generous as a nation. When have we been less than generous? How did that make you feel as an individual citizen? We welcome the Philippine Ambassador. Together with the Couples for Christ in Canberra will Celebrate Mass 8th Nov. at 10.00am. They would like to meet and greet everyone and invite all to have lunch with them, at St Brigid’s. Catholic Voice- out this week, available to collect Reflection Jesus is scathing in this text in his comments about people who parade their religiosity while living at the expense of the poor. Merely making a show is not how God wants to be honoured. Even the wealthy who contribute so generously to the Temple treasury are only giving of their excess; from what they do not need. Instead it is the poor widow, who is under no obligation to contribute to the Temple treasury, who puts all she has at the service of God. With nothing left MINISTRY ROSTER: available from back of church. Emails have been sent to all who have listed an email address. Will be posted on website CONCERT Musica da Camera (string orchestra) Sunday November 15, 2:30 pm St Peter & Paul's (Door collection) The Archdiocesan Commission for Women invites you to their Annual Open Morning and this year our guest speaker is Sally Fitzgerald who has been involved officially with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community since 2012. It is her desire to bring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their culture back into the Catholic Church. Please join us on Saturday 14 November, at 9:30am at the Rheinberger Centre Yarralumla. Men and women are invited to attend. A $5 donation would be appreciated to cover costs. Enquiries to Margaret 0417 418 838. This gospel refers to the Temple treasury. Jesus is not critical of the collection of funds per se; he reserves his scorn for those who exploit the poor and those who are less than generous. The collection of funds and the support of those in need has always been a part of the traditional of the Church. The letters of Paul, the earliest of Paul, the earliest of the Christian writings, often refer to collections made on behalf of some Christian communities which were struggling. In the Acts of the Apostles the sharing of material goods so that none went without was part of the normal life of the first Christians. The giving of money to support the Church and its works is still a part of the life of every parish. Caritas Australia is the official aid and development agency of the Church. During Lent, Caritas runs Project Compassion which collects funds to be used in other parts of the world to assist in authentic human development for people who have little. Each parish relies on contributions from the congregation for the upkeep and running of parish programs and buildings. (The Summit)
