Suggested Summer Reading List for Rising First Graders
St. Michael School Library
Be sure to visit your public library once a week! There are summer
reading programs, activities, and events going on at each public library.
When you visit, bring your library book bag to fill with a variety of reading:
fiction, non-fiction, picture books, biography, etc. Every children's room has
an area for leveled readers (All Aboard Reading, I Can Read, etc.), books
publishers produce that indicate levels 1-4 based on the difficulty of the
words and complexity of sentence structure. Try to gauge where your child
is, and try to read together every day. The following is a list of favorite
picture book and series authors. Be assured that most of what you find in
the picture book aisles of the various library's children's room will be of
good quality, as librarians are reading reviews and making good choices.
