This is a quick note on the use of relaxing, sedative and nervine teas to counter fatigue.
It may seem counter-intuitive to drink something relaxing if you are looking to reduce tiredness, but for many people lethargy can come from over excitability. By this I mean that continual over-thinking, anxiousness and worry can deplete one’s energy stores as their mental state is on rapid fire. This constant thinking can create a restlessness that gives rise to fatigue.
Often folks will counter this tiredness by drinking caffeinated beverages, which may give a useful jolt, but this energy soon recedes. Other ways to reduce this kind of anxious tiredness include napping or taking a relaxing stroll.
While most of these plants can be used beneficially as tinctures and other medicines, there is something calming to the smells, flavors and aesthetic quality of holding a warm cup of tea.
For many people these calming and relaxing effects may decrease their anxiety and internal strain and consequently reduce tiredness.
As the calming effect of the tea settles in and one’s mind settles a little, a sense of rejuvenation may be felt allowing one to continue whatever endeavors they were involved.
This is not a heroic type medicine, but helpful for those who feel over stimulated and tired simultaneously.
Here are some useful plants; a few are added just for flavor. Each person will have their preference for flavor, strength other individual predilections, so play around with these and other nervine plants. Some of these are pretty bitter so you may want to alter how much you add to increase palatability.
• Blue vervain (Verbena hastata)
• Catnip (Nepeta cataria)
• Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla)
• Damiana (Turnera diffusa)
• Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis)
• Lemon grass (Cymbopogon citratus)
• Lemon verbena (Aloysia citrodora)
• Motherwort (Leonurus cardiaca)
• Oats (Avena species)
• Passionflower (Passiflora incarnata)
• Rose petals (Rosa species)
• Skullcap (Scutellaria species)
• Tulsi (Ocimum tenuiflorum)
• Vervain (Verbena officinalis)
For a nourishing brew, use about .50 oz of tea blend per half quart of water (this is about 2 cups). I like using a French press as it makes a stronger infusion. With a press you can push the plants underneath the water line with the plunger allowing more constituent to be released into the hot water. Also, having a top allows more of the aromatics to stay in the water. And squishing down with the plunger extracts more of the plant constituents that would have stayed in the plant material. About 10-15 minutes will usually be enough to make this tea.
It can be refrigerated and later warmed up for drinking.
I hope this is helpful and that you have a good not excessively stimulating day. ~7Song, Ithaca, NY.

http://vaccineresearchlibrary.com/the-shingles-vaccine-what-you-need-to-know/
Makes about 4 cups, plenty for 3-4 children
4 cups organic white flour
1 cup epsom salt, found in the pharmacy section near the hydrogen peroxide and rubbing alcohol (sea salt can be substituted)
4 cups water
4 tablespoons coconut oil
4 TBS cream of tartar (found inexpensively in the bulk sections of health food stores usually)
5-10 drops essential oil of your choice, lavendar is relaxing, peppermint is clarifying
Mix all ingredients in a large sauce pan.
Cook over low/med heat while stirring every few minutes with a spatula, really making sure to scrape the bottom and allow the goopy playdoh to get to the bottom and get cooked.
It’s done when it all stops being goopy and starts being doughy. Allow to cool and then knead to get it completely smooth.

This meditation has a special emphasis on health and healing where habitual thinking and thought patterns are reduced or eliminated and it also helps with insomnia and stress reduction. It also brings an incredible calmness, quietness, clarity and is one of the deepest of all meditations. Yoga Nidra means Yogic Sleep and is a state of conscious Deep Sleep. In this Meditation, you remain in the Waking state of consciousness, and gently focus the mind, while allowing thought patterns, emotions, sensations, and images to arise and go on.
However, in this meditation, you leave the Waking state, go past the Dreaming state, and go to Deep Sleep, yet remain awake. While Yoga Nidra is a state that is very relaxing, it is also used by Yogis to purify the
Samskaras (negative energy & thought patterns). YN is also powerful tool for manifesting. It’s also great for insomniacs and those who suffer with PTSD. We will focus on New Years possibilities~ not resolutions or expectations.
