Continental Holds its Asia Supplier Day in Shanghai
Meeting the challenges of quality, innovative strength, competitiveness and
technological expertise: Continental Automotive Group pays tribute to the outstanding
achievements of its suppliers in Asia.
Shanghai, March 1st, 2011. Continental Automotive Group continues to focus strongly on
its activities in Asia. Our constantly increasing business success in this region also depends
on a good collaboration with our suppliers. To strengthen this relationship, an Asia Supplier
Day has been organized by involving the divisions Chassis & Safety, Powertrain and Interior
of the Automotive Group. With the theme of "Over-Proportional Growth in Asia", this event
took place in Shanghai, China, on March 1st, where about 70 suppliers from the region Asia
attended. At the end of the meeting, Mr. Guenter Fella, Head of Continental Automotive
Purchasing, presented awards to successful suppliers. "Continental aspires to be one of the
market-leading automotive suppliers in the world, and this is inconceivable without our longstanding suppliers, whose expertise and experience bolster our development, production and
logistics capabilities“, said Guenter Fella.
High growth rates for purchasing volume
Mr. Michael Sommer, Head of Continental Purchasing Automotive Asia, reported that in 2010
the purchasing volume of production material and non-production material in Asia had
already reached a considerable size. "Our business in the region Asia is developing and
growing fast. This rapid growth has meanwhile brought about some challenges. In the near
future the challenge for our suppliers in Asia is to provide raw materials, parts and systems of
highest possible quality, to optimize development and production processes, to deliver
reliably and on a long-term basis – all this at internationally competitive prices. Therefore we
value a lot the relationship and network with our suppliers in Asia“, said Mr. Michael Sommer.
Mr. Jay Kunkel emphasized that car manufacturers are increasingly expecting their suppliers'
support and collaboration to meet challenges and achieve goals. "The momentum of the
rebounding auto industry together with the drastically increasing demand in Asia has been

significant shift in car production volumes from the US and Europe towards Asia and there in
particular to China. This trend is expected to continue and will change the priorities in the
automotive industry in mid and long term. Therefore we would like to take the chance of this
Asia Supplier Day to inform our suppliers in Asia about Continental’s concentration on Asia
and the opportunities as well as challenges involved. "
