“Weather around the World”
Monday 24th November – Friday 5th December 2008
A wonderful opportunity for pupils to compare and contrast the weather in different locations
around the world at this time of the year!
All schools in the Weather Watch 2009 Project are invited to take part in the “Weather around the World” fortnight later
this month. During this two week period we invite schools to publish on their project micro-site web page:



Pupil’s poems about the weather in November/December
A daily rainfall and temperature table for this period
Photographs of the clothes pupils wear at this time of year
Why not plan a weather walk in the school grounds?
To demonstrate the different weather conditions at this time of the year some of our Kent schools plan to photograph and
or make a video of the their pupils walking in the school grounds. A wonderful opportunity to show the clothes we wear
and record the appearance of wildlife, trees, plants and hedgerows at this time of year.
For more pupil activities please read the accompanying flier “Cross Curricular Ideas for developing International Links” by
Colette Cotton (Shepway 1 Leading ICT Teacher.)
Thursday 4th and Friday 5th December 2008 “Weather around the World” Web conferences
On these days pupils from all participating schools will have the opportunity to web
conference (using FlashMeeting) with other schools in the project. Sessions lasting 20-30
minutes will be an opportunity for your pupils to:



Read and share their weather poems
Discuss the weather in their local area
Describe what they do outside school during the months of November/December
How can we take part?
To take part in the forthcoming event please complete and return the attached slip to Colette Cotton (Shepway 1 Leading
ICT Teacher) by Monday 17th November 2008. Further details about the event will be circulated to schools on receipt of
your completed booking form.
What is FlashMeeting?
FlashMeeting is a secure and simple to use web conferencing application that enables pupils to meet online and replay
meetings once each session has concluded. Schools require no specialist equipment to use FlashMeeting just a basic
web cam with a built in microphone.
