Revised November24, 2009
http://www.cvm.missouri.edu/avmhs/books.doc
This is a listing of all known books pertaining to the history of veterinary medicine in the
United States and Canada. If the reader knows of a book that has been left out, then
please notify the author (BoydT@missouri.edu). One should not forget to look in
encyclopedias for concise articles on veterinary history.
If a book is still in print, it has been so marked. The book can be ordered through
Amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com ) or Barnes & Noble.com
(http://www.barnesandnoble.com/ ) or from the source given in the annotation.
Unfortunately, the majority of the books listed are now out of print. There are ways to
obtain these however. One might go through the interlibrary loan department of their
local library and borrow a copy. One might monitor eBay (http://www.ebay.com/) as
many of these books do come up for sale there. One might also search on
Bookfinder.com (http://www.bookfinder.com/ ) or AddAll.com
(http://www.addall.com/). Both of these search engines search many out of print book
search engines within a few seconds.
The books have been categorized into four categories: U.S. National Histories, State
Histories, Canadian National Histories and Provincial Histories
