General information
26 April 2011 marks the 25th anniversary of the Chornobyl accident, which caused
significant alterations not only in Ukraine, Belarus and Russia, but in the whole World.
Consequences of catastrophe had great social impact and changed attitude to nuclear power at the
world scale. International radiation standards, national strategies for nuclear power engineering
progress, measures for nuclear safety improvement and management of radioactive wastes were
reviewed essentially. It is important now to estimate the efficiency of radiation safety measures
applied over last decades, analyse mistakes and outline the plan of actions for future.
Aiming at the generalization of the experience of Chornobyl catastrophe consequences
mitigation, and at the further efficient usage of the got experience to improve the nuclear and
radiation safety in the World, International Conference ( hereinafter Conference) “Twenty-five
Years after Chornobyl Accident: Safety for the Future” to be held in Kiev on April 20-22, 2011.
The Conference looks forward to effective implementation of the up-to-date international
experience to solve the following problems:
nuclear and radiation risks; up-to-date technologies and scientific progress for safety of
future; co-operation of government and people;
consequences of nuclear and radiation accidents for people health and environment;
Shelter –object, Decommissioning of Chornobyl NPP, strategy for radioactive wastes and
spent fuel management;
development of prevention and response to nuclear and other technogenic emergencies;
development of emergency plans, public awareness and involvement in emergency
planning;
post-accident radiation monitoring;
radioecological consequences of the Chornobyl catastrophe, farming in contaminated areas,
social and economic development of areas exposed to the Chornobyl catastrophe: successful
development models, overcoming stereotypes and improving the investment attractiveness
of regions.

Structure of International Conference
Working languages of the Conference are Ukrainian, English, and Russian.
Participants of Conference will be provided with the set of documents and materials which
will be available at the Secretariat of Conference during registration.
The collection of reports is proposed to be edited on the basis of the conference conclusions
and distributed among participants.

The Program of Conference encompasses:
 ceremonial opening, welcoming speech of the Conference organizers, greetings of
representatives of governmental and international organizations (April 20, 2011);
 morning plenary session (April 21, 2011);
 sectional sessions (from 14 -00, April 21, 2011) by themes:
Section 1. Nuclear and radiation risks – cooperation of governments and population, up-todate technologies and scientific progresses for the safe future.
Section 2. Provision of radiation safety and health protection of people at the existent postaccidental irradiation, present radiation state and its forecast, modelling and estimation of dose
loading on population .
Section 3. Shelter object, principal aspects of Chornobyl NPP decommissioning, strategy for
radioactive wastes and spent nuclear fuel management.
Section 4. Development of a system for prevention and response to nuclear and other
technogenic emergencies; elaboration of emergency plans; public awareness and involvement in
emergency planning; post-accidental radiation monitoring
Section 5. Radioecological consequences of Chornobyl catastrophe; economic management in
contaminated areas; social and economic development of territories exposed to the Chornobyl
catastrophe: successful development models, stereotypes overcoming, improving the attractiveness
for investments.

International Conference, recommendations for future. Closing of the Conference (April 22, 2011;
 visit to the Chornobyl exclusion zone (optional and preliminary registration) (from13-00

Requirements to abstract and report preparation are given in Appendix II.
Abstracts have to be viewed by Program Committee, which ascertains the section and form of
presentation (oral report, poster). Decisions of Program Committee on abstract admission have to be
placed after January 15, 2011 on the web-site of URICD: www.icz.mns.gov.ua.
Reports admitted by Program Committee and included in the conference program have to be
submitted not later than March 01, 2011 as printed copy signed by author to address:

Registration fee for participants of International Conference
Registration fee is 1000 UAH (100 euro) for participants of Conference. It covers the copy
of materials and social programme.
