DUTIES OF THE POSITION:
The duties of the position are categorised as follows:
TEACHING AND LEARNING / EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT








Contribute to, develop and deliver courses in Construction Engineering and Project
Management (eg. construction technology, processes, systems and materials) in the Bachelor
of Construction Project Management Program and other allied programs of the School.
Link these courses to the Building Information Modelling (BIM) and digital technologies stream
of the Bachelor of Construction Project Management Program
Assist in curriculum development and contribute to the overall development of teaching and
learning in the Construction Engineering, Construction Project Management and BIM/Digital
Technologies fields
Support the maintenance and improvement of quality and academic standards within the
School
Participate in the Work Plan and Performance Review processes of the University
Participate in personal development activities in teaching and learning
Support the development and enhancement of the Faculty's visibility and image as one of
Australia's leading providers of higher education, continuing professional development and
research output.
Help foster effective team-work with colleagues in the School and the Faculty in teaching,
learning and research
RESEARCH AND SCHOLARSHIP






Engage in research appropriate to the strategic research direction of the School with a focus
on construction engineering, construction project management, the use of digital and other
technologies in construction project management and methods of synthesising design and
construction.
Help foster productive collaborative research activity internally with colleagues in the School,
Faculty and University and externally with other broader based research partners
Produce research publications at a rate appropriate to the level of employment
Continually develop and enhance personal scholarly standing
Apply for internal and external research grants
Present ongoing research to colleagues in the School and the Faculty

CONSULTING / EXTERNAL ACTIVITIES

Represent the School and the Construction Project Management discipline to the wider
community by fostering, promoting and developing links with industry, government, academic
and professional bodies
ADMINISTRATION, MANAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP





Contribute as a team-player to the activities of the School’s academic team
Contribute to the management of the School and Faculty through engagement in meetings,
committees and other activities as required
Administer and coordinate a portfolio of subjects
Participate in marketing the School’s courses where appropriate
Develop personal research, teaching and learning leadership in the School and Faculty
primarily in the Construction Engineering, Construction Project Management and BIM/Digital
Technologies fields

SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES








Demonstrated capabilities in research and teaching in Construction Engineering and
Construction Project Management fields, and the ability to link these to Building Information
Modelling (BIM) and digital technologies
Strong interpersonal and public speaking communication skills
Strong writing skills
Demonstrated commitment to teaching and learning quality
Demonstrated ability to forge links with the construction professions and other stakeholders
in the built environment
Understanding of the principles of Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action
and ability to incorporate these into academic life

KNOWLEDGE




Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in fields directly relevant to Construction

knowledge areas of the School
Ability and interest in extending theoretical debate in the fields of Construction Project
Management and it impact on curriculum development
An understanding of key issues in contemporary higher education and research as relevant
to the School and the Faculty
QUALIFICATIONS


A research degree (preferably a PhD) or an equivalent standing of industry experience in a
discipline related to Construction Engineering/Construction Project Management
Eligible to become a member of a professional association appropriate to construction
engineering/project management or allied professions.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED





Teaching experience at a tertiary level or appropriate industry level
Experience in scholarly research and demonstrated capacity to obtain research grants and
other support for research projects
Experience in collaborative research with industry and practice
Professional and research experience pertaining to construction project management or
allied professional field and the use of digital and other technologies in the construction
industry
Appropriate level of industry experience
