Course Description
This 2 day course is designed to provide the opportunity for Physical Therapists and other professions to become involved in wound care best practices. It will provide a review of research and other background knowledge needed to apply physical energies (electricity, sound, light) to speed closure of chronic wounds. Clinical skills labs using realistic tissue models of different types of wounds will provide hands on experience with application techniques for therapeutic ultrasound, ultraviolet light, and electrical stimulation therapy (EST) to wounds. Case studies will illustrate advanced clinical decision making skills needed to rationalize the selection of appropriate individuals who will likely benefit from these physical therapies and to design a treatment protocol that is safe, effective, and feasible.
