GREENVILLE COUNTY RECREATION DISTRICT CLASS DESCRIPTION 2006 CLASS TITLE: THERAPEUTICS MANAGER RECREATION DIVISION GRADE 23 EXEMPT GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF CLASS The purpose of the class is to plan, coordinate and supervise a County-wide program of recreational and leisure activities for individuals with disabilities; and to perform related professional, administrative and supervisory work as required. This class works within broad policy and organizational guidelines and does independent planning and implementation, reporting progress of major activities through periodic conferences and meetings. ESSENTIAL TASKS The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary. Plans, coordinates and supervises a County-wide program of recreational and leisure activities for individuals with disabilities. Ensures program compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations, District policies and procedures, and standards of safety. Supervises assigned staff; supervisory duties include scheduling; instructing; assigning, reviewing and planning work of others; maintaining standards; coordinating activities; assisting with the selection of new employees; acting on employee problems; recommending employee discipline and discharge. Reviews the work of subordinates for completeness and accuracy; evaluates and makes recommendations as appropriate; offers training, advice and assistance as needed. Recruits, trains and supervises the work of program volunteers. Prepares and administers budget(s); prepares related records and reports. Solicits community / corporate sponsorships, partnerships and donations to support assigned programs and activities. Plans, coordinates and implements programs and events for disabled citizens, including but not limited to Special Olympics events, athletic tournaments and other competitions and activities. Coordinates with Marketing division to promote programs, events and activities to the public. Evaluates programs for effectiveness; implements changes as appropriate to improve programs and service delivery. Coordinates transportation for program participants to activities and events. Travels to meetings and athletic competitions. CLASS TITLE: THERAPEUTICS MANAGER – RECREATION DIVISION Procures needed supplies and materials. Prepares records and reports as required. Participates in department marketing and public relations efforts; coordinates with Marketing division when making public presentations to inform the public about assigned projects and programs. Coordinates assigned activities and functions with those of other divisions, departments, municipalities and outside agencies as appropriate. Receives and responds to inquiries, concerns, complaints and requests for assistance regarding areas of responsibility. Performs general administrative / clerical work as required, including preparing reports and correspondence, entering and retrieving computer data, copying and filing documents, attending meetings, answering the telephone, etc. Attends meetings, workshops, conferences, training, etc., as appropriate to enhance job knowledge and skills. INVOLVEMENT WITH DATA, PEOPLE, AND THINGS DATA INVOLVEMENT: Requires coordinating or determining time, place or sequence of operations or activities based on analysis of data or information and may implement and report on operations and activities. PEOPLE INVOLVEMENT: Requires supervising or leading others by determining work procedures, assigning duties, maintaining harmonious relations and promoting efficiency. INVOLVEMENT WITH THINGS: Requires handling or using machines, tools or equipment requiring brief instruction or experience, such as computers for data entry, fax machines, copiers, telephones or similar equipment; may service office machines, including adding paper and changing toner. COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS REASONING REQUIREMENTS: Requires performing supervisory work involving policy and guidelines, solving both people- and work-related problems. MATHEMATICAL REQUIREMENTS: Requires using addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, and/or calculating ratios, rates and percentages. LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS: CLASS TITLE: THERAPEUTICS MANAGER – RECREATION DIVISION Requires reading journals, manuals and professional publications; speaking informally to groups of co-workers, staff in other organizational agencies, the general public, people in other organizations; presenting training; composing original reports, training and other written materials using proper language, punctuation, grammar and style. MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Requires doing professional-level work requiring the application of principles and practices in a wide range of administrative, technical or managerial methods in the solution of administrative or technical problems; or the coordination of entry-level managerial work; requires general understanding of operating policies and procedures and the ability to apply these to complex administrative problems; requires continuous, close attention for accurate results or frequent exposure to unusual pressures. VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE PREPARATION VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL PREPARATION: Requires Bachelor’s degree in recreation administration, special education or a closely related field. SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES: Must possess a valid state driver’s license. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Requires two years of relevant experience to include working with people with disabilities. AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT REQUIREMENTS PHYSICAL AND DEXTERITY REQUIREMENTS: Requires light-to-medium work that involves walking or standing much of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a recurring basis, or considerable skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving close tolerances or limits of accuracy. ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS: The job may risk exposure to bright/dim light, dusts and pollen, extreme heat and/or cold, wet or humid conditions, traffic. SENSORY REQUIREMENTS: The job requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing and speaking abilities.
