Press release Weatherchem meets sustainability goals with allelectric machines from ENGEL. York, Pa. – June 5, 2013 – Weatherchem Corporation, a recognized leader in the manufacturing of convenient, controlled dispensing plastic closures, continues to partner with ENGEL North America to keep up with their tremendous growth and achieve sustainability goals. Recently acquired by Mold Rite Plastics who shares in this sustainability commitment, Weatherchem has added an ENGEL e-motion 550 US injection molding machine, which provides them with a high efficiency / low energy consumption combination. Since their partnership began in 2007, ENGEL North America has installed a total of nine allelectric ENGEL e-motion injection molding machines in Weatherchem’s 45,000 square foot plant located in Twinsburg, Ohio. In sizes ranging from 310 to 550 US tons, the ENGEL all-electric injection molding machines provide the high efficiency, energy saving operation that is key to Weatherchem’s sustainable development goals. Five years ago Weatherchem decided to make a change from hydraulic presses to the allelectric injection molding machine platform. Looking for more than a basic machinery supplier, they chose to partner with ENGEL. “We wanted a partner, not just a vendor,” states Bob Rodgers, Technical Engineering Manager for Weatherchem. “To us, ENGEL is a firm that provides a fully integrated technology solution. We can approach them with a new concept and they will help us to determine the right way to proceed, be it machine technology and options, automation or downstream requirements. They definitely provide us with a full system solution.” ENGEL North America, 3740 Board Road, York, PA, USA, 17406 phone: 717 764 6818, fax: 717 764 0314 e-mail: sales@engelglobal.com, http://www.engelglobal.com/na Press release And the change to all-electric has definitely been a positive one. Conducting internal testing with one of their applications, first on a hydraulic press and then on the ENGEL e-motion, Weatherchem saw an energy savings of over 70% -- even higher than they had been lead to expect, and proving that they definitely made a positive business move with the shift to allelectric. The proof is in the numbers. Showing amazing financial and market growth over the past 5 years, Weatherchem’s innovation initiatives are obviously working. With examples including a 464% growth in the dietary supplement market compared to a market growth of 7%; and 55% increase in the spice and seasoning market which itself only grew by 3.2%, they have also been able to realize growth in both revenue and EBITDA. Founded in 1971, Weatherchem established itself in the packaging industry with its creative line of plastic dispensing closures for containers and bottles. Along with Stull Technologies, Weatherchem was recently purchased by Mold-Rite Plastics, which is owned by private equity firm Irving Place Capital. The company at large has expanded its product offerings, added multiple manufacturing locations and in-house tooling capabilities, and enhanced their already unmatched flexibility and responsiveness. -30- ENGEL North America, 3740 Board Road, York, PA, USA, 17406 phone: 717 764 6818, fax: 717 764 0314 e-mail: sales@engelglobal.com, http://www.engelglobal.com/na Press release The newly acquired ENGEL e-motion 550 US all-electric injection molding machine provides the high efficiency, energy saving operation that is key to Weatherchem’s sustainable development goals -30- Mold-Rite Plastics І Weatherchem Corporation І Stull Technologies Three trusted closure manufacturers have joined together to deliver greater value for customers.
