I was the deputy director of Farm Mechanization Research Centre, Department of Agriculture,
Mahailluppallama for the period of three years. Latter part of this period I worked as the acting
director of the centre. During this period
 Established goals and objectives in order to run the institutions smoothly and efficiently,
 Planed and implemented institutional work programmes optimizing all resources,
 Developed and formulated various types of projects implemented in agricultural and industrial
sectors through government and private institutions and NGOs’ under various donor agencies,
 Led all staff of the institution toward achieving institutional goals and objectives

Greater Kandy Water Supply Project, National Water Supply and Drainage Board, Katugastota, Sri

 Design, fabrication and installation of test apparatus for testing of water meters and

systems in urban water supply schemes using pressure management techniques

establishment of quality assurance mechanism in manufacturing as well as importing
water fittings and equipment
In farm mechanization, post harvest technology and food processing, as an Engineer, Deputy Director
and Acting Director of Farm Mechanization Research Centre (FMRC):
FMRC is the national institute of Sri Lanka to deal with farm mechanization in the country.
 formulated farm mechanization strategies and policies and advised the department of
Agriculture and the Ministry of Agriculture on implementing farm mechanization programmes,
 developed national standards for agricultural machinery and equipment,
 launched research and development on farm mechanization including irrigation, postharvest
processing and food processing,
 researched and selected farm mechanization and irrigation technologies to suite the country,
 tested and evaluated farm machinery and equipment on their performance and durability and
produced test reports,
 disseminated technologies to manufacturers, traders and farmers,
 dealt with integrated-farming systems, based on bio diversification and harnessing of
renewable energy such as bio gas, solar and wind power, (These systems are
incorporated with appropriate farm machinery and implements, irrigation systems and
postharvest processing machinery and equipment.)
I am with handful experiences in
 evaluation of project proposals on sustainable agriculture development and potable water
supply and distribution systems in Sri Lanka against their economics and technical feasibility,
 testing and evaluation and, selection of different types of water pumps and their accessories
such as pressure control valves, flow control valves, pressure sustaining valves, water hammer
surge arresters, air release valves, flow meters, different types of water filters etc, and
 procurement of material and equipment in relating to water supply and distribution systems,
food and seed processing plants and their equipments, farm machinery and, irrigation systems
and their equipment in relating domestic and commercial agriculture.
In cement production as a mechanical engineer – Sri Lanka Cement Corporation:
 Worked as active member of the team for modifying the kilns to replace diesel firing system by
coal powder firing system and, installation of electrostatic precipitator for removing dust from
exhaust gas of grinding mills (The coal conversion system involved coal grinding, powder feeding
and firing. The electrostatic precipitator was German design and was fabricated locally.),
 Involved in plant maintenance in order to keep mechanical and electrical equipment and
instruments in smooth running/operating condition,
 Designed and modified granular conveying systems and powder handing systems
In activated carbon production as Engineering Manager of Haycarb (Pvt) Ltd:
 I was totally responsible for plant modification in order to improve production process, towards
improving product quality, minimum energy consumed and, industry sustainability on
environmental pollution and supply of raw material (charcoal made out of coconut shells). My
outcomes were, always based on the concept of total solution.

 Directly engaged in designing and installation of dust extraction systems and screening systems
of granular and powder carbon and, modification of crushing and grinding system of carbon.
In pump manufacturing as Chief Engineer of Solex Engineering (Pvt) Ltd:
 I was in top of the hierarchy to deal with all technical issues starting from casting to end up with
finish product. (Solex is one of two pump manufacturing companies in Sri Lanka. Foundry is
having modern technologies in moulding, furnace and material testing. Some manufacturing
machining lines are automated with CNC machines.)
 Led technical staff to design and establish production lines including jigs and fixtures
 Directly dealt with design and testing of water pumps and their accessories and waste
management of foundry and factory.
 Designed and installed irrigation systems (automated drip and trickle irrigation systems and
sprinkler systems with variable speed pumps) and water supply systems for high rise buildings
and communal drinking water projects,
 Designed and installed waste water disposal systems, water treatment and filtering systems and
water recirculation systems in industries, hotels and domestic use,
 Procurement of water pumps and their relating equipment and, sewage machinery and
equipment
In consultancy as Managing Director of JB Agric Engineering (Pvt) Ltd:
I am now doing consultancies on project formulation and, design and installation of various types of
Elctro-Mechanical engineering projects involved in fields of
 water supply and distribution systems incorporated with waste water recycling and
disposal systems in domestic, hotels and industries, (All designs are based on the
concept of total water solutions with strategy of pressure management.)
 drainage and flood prevention systems,
 ecofriendly industrial waste disposal systems into air and surface water,
 wind energy harnessing (Wind turbines and water pumps with their structures),
 hydro power generation (Penstock, radial and sluice gates for water reservoirs/rivers in
hydro power and irrigation projects)
