Date: May 01, 2015 To whom it may concern Dear Sir / Madam, Seeking International Jobs Post – Open in the fields of water sector including Irrigation Summary of My Experience I am a charted mechanical engineer graduated at University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka, and obtained masters in Agri. Engineering at Silsoe College, Cranfield Institute, England. I started my carrier with cement industry and extended to farm mechanization, production of activated carbon, manufacturing processes of water pumps and their accessories, water supply and distribution systems including irrigation, waste water management, and harnessing wind power in small scale. Since 1980, I have been working in integrated farming systems, developed on bio diversification and harnessing renewable energy such as bio gas and wind power. These systems are incorporated with appropriate farm machinery and implements, irrigation systems and postharvest processing machinery and equipment. In some cases programmes are extended up to value addition stage. I have designed and have installed small scale rice flour production plants starting from paddy cleaning. Some of my innovations have been disseminated to foreign countries too. My design of paddy transplanting machine is disseminated to Philippines, India, Nepal and Kenya. Pulse processing machine is in India, Kenya and Ecuador. I have designed and developed unique wind pump which eliminates dynamic lateral forces in cranking unit and imbalance pressure forces exerted on the pump, during up ward and down ward strokes. Some of strategies I have adopted in economic development of rural people through sustainable agriculture are as follows. Increasing land productivity through intensification of cropping systems by proper irrigation systems and environmental control agriculture in poly tunnels Minimum destruction of natural forest through Integrated farming systems which essentially includes animal and crop husbandries together with cropping system Replacing fossil fuel energy by wind power and bio-gas Value adding mechanisms through postharvest and food processing In addition being former director of Farm Mechanization Research Centre, my experience and capabilities are totally fit with the duties and responsibilities of the above post. The principles of those are as follows. Evaluation of project proposals on sustainable agriculture development in Sri Lanka against their economics and technical feasibility. Assist and advice Department of Agriculture and Ministry of Agriculture on developing farm mechanization strategies and policies in national level Developing project proposals on mechanization needs and harnessing wind power for water pumping in agriculture Developing farm machinery and implement and dissemination of these technologies through effective extension programmes which essentially included training for extension people, manufacturers and end users. My 15 months’ experience in the Household Food Security Project under FAO at Food and Nutrition Unit, State Department of Agriculture, The Gambia as Food Processing Engineer is also valuable. The project has been developed strategically on capacity building programmes in order to improve economy and living standard of rural people in Gambia. Main responsibility and duties of this assignment were identification of appropriate and sustainable irrigation and food processing technologies to improve living standard of rural people in the Gambia, design, fabrication and extension of those technologies, assisting staff of Food and Nutrition Unit (FNU), National Agricultural Engineering Unit (NARI) and Gambia Technical Training Institute (GTTI) on project formulating in the area of irrigation and food processing and implementing them in order to enhance living standard of rural people and conducting training for various parties. With these experience I am seeking respectable job to work next few years. I am confidence that I will be one of active members of your working team if I get opportunity to work in your organization. In further, I am now with handful experience to work in the area of rural economy development through sustainable agriculture and farm products based industries. The experience I gained through working in Africa, south Asia and West Africa encourage me to continue the work developing countries in the area of economy development of poor people in developing countries. I am more interested to work under UNDP, FAO, ADB and World Bank projects or any other reputed organizations because we, as consultant, are free to apply our knowledge and use our skills and capabilities in project formulating, evaluating and implementing. Finally we are happy to see the results by achieving set target and goals through our innovative activities. More details are in my CV attached herewith. Thanking you H.M. Nimal Jayantha
