The Position: The Graduate Assistant for Programming Resources is a ten and a half month position that manages the daily operations of the department media center including monitoring the department programming materials inventory, development and maintenance of informational files, providing production support for special projects, and supervision of Programming Resource Center student assistants. Responsibilities: 1. Organizational Skills: a. Assists the Director of Residential Education in the administrative, developmental, and facilities management of the Programming Resource Center. b. Organizes and maintains all department resource files related to programming, training, and community development. c. Monitors inventory and maintains condition of all department media equipment. d. Monitors inventory and coordinates ordering of all consumable programming and training production supplies. e. Tracks usage of room and inventory to make informed decisions about necessary changes in operation. f. Develops and monitors the Resource Center budget, including expenses for commodities and payroll. 2. Collaboration: a. Attends regularly scheduled Programming Resource Center and Residential Life staff meetings as designated. b. Actively participates in professional staff development sessions. c. Coordinates the sharing of educational resources of campus partners with Resource Center guests. d. Collaborates interdepartmentally to provide resources for current educational themes or needs. e. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Residential Education. 3. Supervision: a. Coordinates and supports the recruitment, selection, hiring, and training of Programming Resource Center student assistants. b. Monitors and submits payroll according to Human Resource deadlines. c. Follows all guidelines in completing and submitting all paperwork related to hiring, evaluating, and terminating employees. 4. Develop and Present Training: Position Number 6138 Updated 11/8/12 a. Actively participates as a member of department planning teams related to programming and/or training development as designated. b. Completes an annual report at the end of each fiscal year that includes operations, staff protocols, procedures, and inventory. 5. Program Development/ Planning: a. Develops and disseminates programming calendars, resource lists, planning materials, and resources. b. Provides resources designed to support the objectives of the Residential Curriculum and other departmental and university initiatives such as the Northern PACT. c. Advises and/or refers staff and student leaders on program/training resource options. d. Markets the Resource Center through Open House and recognition events and newsletters. 6. Leadership: a. Promotes the development of a civil, welcoming, just, and diverse residential community. b. Supports the mission, as well as all policies and procedures of the department and the university. 7. Time Management: a. Establishes and maintains regularly scheduled office hours. b. Providing access to the Resource Center for staff during prior to each semester, which may require office hours or availability during university break periods Requirements: Admitted to NIU’s graduate school and enrolled in a graduate course of study. Preference will be given to graduate students pursuing a degree in Counseling, Adult and Higher Education, but those pursuing degrees in a closely related field or discipline at Northern Illinois University will also be considered. Qualifications: Experience working with students of diverse educational, racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds. Salary/Compensation for a 10.5 month, 20 hours per week position includes: Start Date: July 15, 2013. Salary: $1,000 per month (distributed as $500 semi-monthly.) Housing in residence hall: Contingent upon availability. Meal Plan: Yes, while Residential Dining services are in operation. Other Benefits: Tuition Waiver (excluding fees) and professional development funds; summer employment may also be available.
