FAQs for Service Improvements Q. Which areas are affected? A. Parts of the following areas will be affected by the changes: Wortley, Armley, Holbeck, Beeston, Meanwood, Headingley, Burmantofts, Chapeltown, Oakwood, Roundhay, Osmandthorpe, Seacroft, Crossgates, Pendas Fields Q. Why are changes being made? A. The changes mean we can make the service run more efficiently day to day, reducing the risk of missed collections across the city. Q. Why is my collection day changing? A. In order to increase the efficiency of the service and reduce the risk of missed collections, it was necessary to move your collection day. Q. Will the day of my green bin and brown bin also change. No the change is just for your black general waste bin. Please continue to put your green bin and brown bin out for collection on your current collection day. Q. Will the time of my collection change if the collection day has stayed the same? A. The crews will be following new rounds, so this will mean that the time of your collection may change. Please ensure that you put out your bin no later than 7 am on your collection day to make sure that your bin is emptied. Q. What are the benefits of making these changes? A. It will help to reduce the risk of missed collections, and make the service more cost effective. Q. When will my new collection day start? 1 A. The changes to your refuse route (general black waste bin) will start towards the end of January 2013. Until then you should continue to put your black bin out on your usual collection day. Q. Can I have a smaller bin? Due to the low demand for smaller bins, we no longer provide small (120 litre) bins. If you are elderly or disabled, we can offer you an assisted wheel out service. Q. Can I have a bigger bin? A. We no longer supply large 360 litre bins. We do offer a 770 litre bin if you live in a communal property and we can arrange for an officer to visit the site to make an assessment of your needs. Q. Will my council tax increase because of these changes? A. No. Your council tax charge will change, as it does every year. However, any changes to council tax will not be as a direct result of the changes we have made to your collections. Q: Will there be any changes to waste collection points? A. The location of these collection points will not change. In certain areas where bins have been collected from properties by crews and then left at a point for residents to return to their property, it is possible that residents will now be asked to present bins for collection and the crews will then return the bins to properties. This aims to reduce the negative impact of bins left on streets. Residents will be notified specifically. Q. When is my street getting green bins? A. We are looking at households who don’t currently have a recycling collection service as it is our intention to provide recycling collection services to as many people as possible in Leeds. At the moment we can’t say how soon these changes will happen. We will write to residents before the service 2 starts, in their area, to let them know more about the service we provide and to answer any questions they may have. Q When are you going to introduce fortnightly green bin collections? A. We are starting to roll out alternate weekly collections to some parts of the city over the coming year. You will be notified if this change affects you. Q When is my street getting brown bins? A. Over the next year we will be looking at how we can include additional areas into the current brown bin routes. This will allow us to increase the number of households that can have a garden waste collection. We will write to residents who may be affected by any changes nearer the time. Q. When is my street getting a food waste collection service? A. Households in Rothwell currently receive a separate weekly collection of their food waste. We are currently looking at how food waste collections could potentially be introduced in other parts of the city. This will be very much dependent on the availability of resources. 3
