KenTon Newsletter MAY 2013

graduation time. We are all jumping for joy!!
We will be moving to our new rooms this
month and having fun exploring them.
We are also re-registering this month
so please hand in your registration packets
as soon as possible. We are looking
forward to having all our friends return to us.
Miss Melissa in Toddler 3 is starting
her maternity leave early. We wish her the
best and look forward to seeing that
gorgeous little baby. Good Luck Miss
Melissa!!
Please check to see if your child has
extra clothes in their cubbies. If you have
any extra clothes that you would like to
donate we would gladly accept them.
Miss Millie
Our days in the Nursery are very busy.
Besides the normal feeding, sleeping and
changing, everyday, we sing our favorite songs
such as, “Oh Mr. Sun!” and “Twinkle Twinkle
Little Star” in addition to our several fingerplays
that have become familiar to the children. We
use hand puppets and hand motions with our
songs and include the babies names as well
which really brings smiles to their faces.
Reading is a regular part of our day too.
We choose for their repetitive rhythm, attractive
pictures and use of diversity.
I would like to conclude with a quote
from an edition of “Foundations of early
Childhood Education”.. Believe it or not, care
giving is an important time for early literacy
development. During these essential activities
of daily living, if caregivers use language in
context, infants learn vocabulary, such as body
parts, without ever having “lessons”.

Nursery 2 – This is moving up month to
Nursery 1 – “Flower Power” is this
month’s theme in Nursery one. As a lead
teacher I try to have the room’s decorations
reflect our themes. Being that we spend a good
part of our day in the classroom, I try to make
the environment colorful and full of different
shapes and patterns. I also try to use 3D art and
occasionally copies of original art that you may
see in a museum.
The babies are really enjoying our ball
pit. It serves as a sensory experience for our
youngest babies as they kick, throw, and feel.
They also like the sounds the balls make
against the wall of the plastic pool.
Toddler 1. We are preparing for the upcoming
move through following a new schedule,
sleeping on cots, and having a new sleeping
schedule. We can’t wait to be big toddlers.
We will continue our walks and our fun
times outside. Please remember the sunscreen
if you haven’t brought any in already.
I will be moving onto preschool but it has
been a joy working with your children.

Preschool 1 – Preschool 1 has had a
great time learning about colors, rainbows
and science. We made rainbows using
paint, glue, paper, food and water. We have
become rainbow experts finishing off the
unit with the song “ I See Rainbows” Please
ask your child about the beautiful colors of
the Rainbow.
As the weather has improved we
have been enjoying the outdoors- playing
with the sand table, water table even
walking bare foot in the grass to see how it
feels. We will continue go outside as much
as possible so please dress accordingly.

theme to work on rhyming skills. Some of
the stories we will read are The Cat in the

As always we will incorporate our theme
into our writing center, our art center, and
