This Year STAR – Shipyard Trust for the Arts and Artspan will host the annual Fall

Open Studios at Hunters Point Shipyard on November 9 and 10, 2013 from 11am to 6pm.

Explore more than 150 working artist studios featuring San Francisco’s top artists.

Open to the public just two weekends a year, this is a rare opportunity to buy local art right from the source. This historic naval site, nestled on the Bay, is the creative backdrop for these artists. Scattered through eight buildings at two sites, the 28 year old art colony offers a moveable feast of original artworks, including painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking, jewelry, ceramics and textiles.

Bring your kids to Family Art Day on Saturday Nov. 9 from 11 to 4pm by visiting the YES project

– a Youth Educational Spaceship

that will be hosting tours and activities for youth in and around the spacecraft including workshops in mosaics, LED lights and robotics demonstrations. Family Art Day at Fall Open Studios at Hunters

Point Shipyard is sponsored by STAR and Artspan. For more information on the Fall

Open Studios event go to: http://artspan.org/sfopenstudios

This year we are extremely excited to work with the Youth Educational Spacecraft

Project (YES) who will be onsite with their mobile spaceship classroom! The YES classroom is a large, collaborative, creative public art sculpture covered in lunar mosaics deigned by children in the Bayview/Hunters Point neighborhood, drawing attention everywhere it "lands".

Family Art Day is focused on the importance of art in community building and creating connections between the public and artists at the Shipyard. Watch the video of last year's event to learn more. Attendance is free and open to the public. We hope to see you there!

STAR SPONSORS THE YES PROJECT AT FAMILY ART DAY 2013 !

STAR has partnered with Artspan this year to bring the YES Project to Hunters Point

Shipyard for the 2 nd annual Family Art Day being held on Saturday November 9, 2013 during the Fall Open Studios event.

About the YES Project

The Youth Educational Spacecraft Project is an unprecedented mobile classroom boldly forging new ground in learning through creative expression about art and technology.

The spacecraft's exterior is an extraordinary mosaic created by over 75 kids using recycled materials. The interior is an interactive fort where children are invited inside to interact with sound, video, robotics and technology.

In a time when funding for art and science education is constantly cut, the YES

Project is dedicated to providing the valuable resource for education in art and technology to people in want and need.

The YES Spacecraft will “land” at Hunters Point Shipyard for the Fall Open Studios weekend offering tours and workshops during Family Arts Day 11-4pm Saturday Nov

9, and will be on display Sunday through the following week at the Shipyard.

The YES project is a great opportunity for STAR and the Shipyard Artists to support in its early stages of curriculum development. The Spaceship was born and built by

Dana Albany right here in the Bayview. It is an incredible concept that with the right publicity, planning and support, can have far reaching effects on opening new avenues of effective youth education.

If you are an arts educator and would like to learn more or get involved with the development of the YES Project please contact STAR Education Committee members Bath Shannon bethshannon@mac.com

or Stacey Carter stacey@staceycarter.net

Exploratorium, Black Rock City LLC, Burning Man Project, The Crucible.,
