COW/CALF AND PROSPECT MARKET CALF
SHOW
St. Paul, MN (08/23/13) - There was a total of 605 beef cattle shown at the 4-H Beef
Show. There were 41 cow/calf pairs and 43 prospect calves exhibited in the Beef Cow/Calf
Show. Judging this year’s Beef Show was Neil Branscum of Nancy, Kentucky. Neal graduated from
the University of Kentucy in 2000, and currently works as a territory representative for the Elanco
Animal Health Division in Kentucky and Ohio. Neal has recently judged the Junior Beef Cattle Show
at the North American Livestock exposition in Louisville, and has judged many State Fairs and breed
shows across the country. His wife Rebekah, along with his two children, Ryder and Kat, own Ard
Ridge Cattle Company.
The overall Grand Champion Cow/Calf was the Hereford pair shown by Nicholas Delaney
of Lincoln County and the overall Reserve Champion was the Black Angus shown by Nicholas
Krog of Lincoln County.
The Grand Champion Prospect Calf was a heifer exhibited by Thomas Norman of Rock
County and the Reserve Champion Prospect Calf was a heifer shown by Logan Kluis of Murray
County. The animals showed on the first day of the fair, Aug. 22nd. Selection of the overall winners
was made during the 34th Annual Beef Championship on Friday afternoon in the Minnesota State
Fair Coliseum.
