The tournament had been primarily introduced to allow players to compete in a format that mirrors the InterServices event. A strong field of 32 male and 7 female golfers from across the Service assembled at the prestigious Oxfordshire healthland course to become their respective RAF Match Play Champions. Ben Spoor beat his long term adversary Daz Gould by holing a good putt on the 15th green in the Gents competition and the Ladies competition was won by Chloe Pickering who used her shots well to beat Sarah Purdy in the final. This year’s competition will be played over the unforgiving links at Burham and Berrow Golf Club. 2013 RAFGA Strokeplay Champs – Frilford Heath Red Course was used again as the venue for the Stroke Play Champs. Keenly contested over 72 demanding holes playing the purest form of the game, the winners were Steve Davies for the gents, his third success in this event and and Beth Shippen for the ladies, here first victory holding off Rachel McAlpine a previous champion on numerous occasions. This years competition is being held over the links at Saunton Golf Club, the venue which will host the 2014 Inter Service Champs in Sep 14. 2013 RAFGA Inter Station Champs – After four regional finals at Weston-Super-Mare GC, The Northumberland GC, Belton Park GC and Sonning GC the finalists gather at Lincoln GC (Torksey) in early Oct for 2 days of hard fought stableford scratch and handicap play, in lovely weather with the course in excellent condition over the following formats: Greensomes 4BBB Foursomes Singles The victors after 72 holes were RAF Coningsby in the scratch division and RAF Cosford in the Handicap. 2013 Inter Service Champs – The pinnacle (great balls) of the RAF golfing calendar is the Inter Service Championships. These were played at Frilford Heath Golf Club Red Course, a course the representative players for both the ladies and gents knew very well. After 3 days of excellent play the victors in the gents were the RAF, winning for the 3rd consecutive year and for the ladies a special mention as they won the Championships without losing a single match, a massive achievement against their adversaries from the Army and the Navy. 2013 Cornish Piskey - After victory in 2012 in this prestigious event, the RAF team put up an excellent defence playing one of the hardest forms of the game, scratch foursomes. The team were runners up to the March Hares a team full of very low handicap players. We look forward to this years event at Newquay Golf Club to once again pit our wits against some top opposition.
