SECTION 07810 - -PLASTIC SKYLIGHTS
Models FG-605, FG-607, FG-610
PART 1: General
1.01
DESCRIPTION:
A. Scope:
This section includes everything necessary for and incidental to the
execution and completion of the plastic domed skylight work as shown on
the drawings and specified herein.
B. Work Included:
Work included, and is limited to, the skylight materials only and includes
the following:
1.
Domed plastic skylights complete with curb frame (for mounting on
flashed curbs by others) and (single) (double), glazed 100% acrylic
dome(s). Curb frames to have integral counterflashing.
C. Related Work:
1. Section _________________ roofing.
2. Section _________________ flashing & sheet metal.
3. Section _________________ final cleaning.
1.02 DESIGN CRITERIA:
A. Structural Criteria:
Plastic skylights must meet the requirements of American Architectural
Manufactures Association (AAMA) publication “Voluntary Uniform Load
Structural Standard for Plastic Domed Skylights” (AAMA 1606-82) which
requires acrylic thickness adequate to withstand a positive and negative
test pressure of 60 PSF.
B. Moisture Control:
1.
Skylights shall have integral condensation gutter and weep holes for
draining any moisture to outside.
2.
Skylights shall utilize manufactures standard silicone seal between retainer
and domes to minimize air and water infiltration.

Double dome skylights shall utilize GSI’s silicone plus seal gasketing
system to minimize moisture and dust accumulation between domes.
SUBMITTALS:
A. Shop Drawings:
Submit___ copies of manufacturer’s standard approval sheet for
architect’s review and approval.
PART 2: PRODUCTS:
2.01 MANUFACTURER:
A.
Skylight shall be GSI factory glazed (FG) model 605 (bubble shaped
domes) or model 610 (pyramid shaped dome) as manufactured by GSI
Skylight Products, Inc., Grayslake, IL. (847-223-4500) sizes as shown on
the drawings. Substitute manufacturers shall not be considered without
prior approval in writing no later than ten (10) calendar days prior to the
bid. To prequalify, substitute manufacturers must have been in the
skylight buisness for not less than a period of 15 years and must submit to
the architect the following:
1.
Proof of competency which shall include a list of similar projects
successfully completed within the past five years and proof of
financial capability.
2.
Complete details of proposed skylight.
3.
Complete specifications for the architect’s review.
2.02 MATERIALS:
A.
Curb frame o be fabricated from 6063-T5 or T6 aluminum extrusion
having a minimum thickness of .078” and shall have a built in
condensation gutter. Corners shall be welded to insure leakproof quality.
B.
100% acrylic dome(s) shall be clear, #2447 white, or #2412 bronze, (clear/
clear, clear/ #2447 white, or #2412 bronze/ clear) and shall be held in
place by a fully welded extruded aluminum-retaining frame with a
minimum thickness of .063”.
C.
Aluminum finish to be (standard mill) (bronze baked enamel) (clear,
bronze or black anodized).
2.03 FABRICATION:
A.
Skylight shall be factory assembled.
B.
All welding of aluminum shall be by the heliarc process.
PART 3: EXECUTION
3.01 INSPECTION:
A.
Prior to starting installation, the skylight installer shall inspect the
supporting curbs for completeness and watertightness to verify that they
are properly prepared to receive the work. Report, in writing, any
deficiencies in the substrate. Work shall not proceed until all deficiencies
are corrected.
3.02 PREPARATION:
A.
Tops of curbs shall receive coating of mastic, provided by installer, to
form watertight seal between skylight curb frame and curbing.
3.03 INSTALLATION:
A.
An experienced installer familiar with the manufacturer’s system and
installation procedures shall install the skylight.
