7 complete lesson plans have been provided in PowerPoint for the appropriate
subject (one of ten).
Each of these lesson plans provides approximately 3 hours of instruction.
Variations in teaching styles and emphasis may affect the length of time to
complete a lesson.
Lessons should be taught at your own pace.
The lesson plans provided act as templates only for the text books provided.
Instructors may choose to make changes to the distribution of grades, the
assignments and field exercises, the learning evaluation tools such as quizzes and
exams, and the emphasis on technical content if some areas don't apply in your
community.
Slides may be added or removed at the instructor’s discretion.
All content contained within these lesson plans remains the sole property of
Carson Dunlop & Associates and must be used in conjunction with the Carson
Dunlop Home Inspection Training Program. These lesson plans cannot be used or
distributed elsewhere.
LEARNING EVALUATION TOOLS
Quizzes

The Instructor Resource Guides contain several quizzes that can be administered
in the classroom. These contain a subset of questions from the chapter review
questions as well as some new questions. Instructors can modify the quizzes as
they please. Answer templates to these quizzes have also been provided.
Midterms and Final Exams


Three midterms and three final exams have been provided for each textbook.
Where multiple exams are provided, you can, for example, choose midterm A and
final exam A one year and next year use midterm B and final exam B. The exams
are a combination of multiple choice, short answer, and illustration problems.
Answer templates have also been provided for each of the midterms and final
exams.
Multiple Choice tests

If you prefer a multiple choice format for exams, several are provided for each
text.
Field Exercises
Several field exercises are included in these instructor resources. These will help to turn
knowledge into real world experience. Instructors may assign part or all of these
exercises as assignments. The lesson plans provided do include some field exercises as
part of the assignments. This can be changed at your discretion.
COURSEWARE DISTRIBUTION
Home Reference Books

Each student who has registered in one or more courses should receive one copy
of the Home Reference Book. This acts as a resource aid for all ten subjects. If a
student has registered in more than one course, they should only receive one copy
of the HRB to be used in all 10 courses.
Course textbooks

Instructors should distribute the appropriate textbook to students at the beginning
of the first class.
RECOMMENDATIONS




Please review the course materials and classroom sessions prior to commencing
the classes. A detailed timeline with learning objectives has been provided for
each of the 7 classroom sessions. Please review this before commencing the
courses.
All of these materials use solid, consistent materials, rich with illustrations and
video/CD-ROM images that demonstrate field situations. This will ensure
consistency in the material being taught and will enhance the learning experience
for the students.
A course outline has also been provided with your instructor resource package for
each of the seven classroom sessions. This can be distributed to students in the
first class.
Questions can be directed to Shawn Carr at carr@carsondunlop.com or by phone
at 1-800-268-7070 ext #266.
PACING
As a rough guideline, we have found that 40 slides per hour is a reasonable pace through
the material—your results may vary! Depending on your class duration and schedule, you
may find there are more slides than you can reasonably cover. Here are some suggestions
for trimming the material if you need to:

Focus in class on a subset of topics—for example, the ones you feel will be most
difficult for your students to master. Similarly, you may wish to skip topics that
are less relevant in your community or geographical area. Virtually all of the
verbal content in the slide presentation is also available in the text, so students
will still be able to study on their own any topic you don’t get to in the classroom.
The content of quizzes and exams is covered in the text.

Omit some of the photographs. There are many photographs illustrating normal
and problem conditions in various house structures. You may wish to skip or skim
some of them.

Omit some of the case studies, or treat them simply as example photographs.
You’ll want to review the contents of each slide presentation before the actual class, in
order to determine what, if any, slides you want to cut or skim over.
