REPORTS TO:
Consultant/Senior Registrar Cardiac Surgeon
Subordinate Staff (only those for whom the
jobholder is directly responsible Residents.)
Essential collaboration with all staff in other
medical and surgical departments.

JOB SUMMARY:
1.1
To exercise the highest possible standard of patient care according to his
clinical privileges.
1.2
To participate in the training and teaching programme of the hospital.
1.3
To work towards completing his sub-speciality training in Cardiac Surgery.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
2.1
Abides by the Medical Staff Bylaws, Code of Medical Ethics, Rules and
Regulations of the Medical Staff and those specific to the department/division.
2.2
Provides the highest attainable standard of medical care for the patients for
whom he/she is responsible.
2.3
Carries out full range of inpatient and outpatient clinical duties as assigned by
the Consultant/Senior Registrar Cardiac Surgeon in accordance with
individually approved clinical privileges.
2.4
Participates in the on-call duties as required by the department/division.
2.5
Participates in the improvement of quality of patient care (Total Quality
Management Programme, Quality Assessment Improvement Programme) as
applicable.
2.6
Instructs and guides when necessary junior medical staff in the overall care of
patients, supervises their performance/work and contributes to the training and
teaching activities in the department/division.

To report and discuss all unusual findings, complication or alterations in the
management plan, with the Consultant /Senior Registrar Cardiac Surgeons.
2.8
Fulfills the requirements of the Saudi Council for Health Specialities with
regard to continuing medical education.
2.9
Attends the Continuing
Department/division.
2.10
Works towards completing his sub-speciality training in Cardiac Surgery.
2.11
Participates in approved research projects.
2.12
Shares workload in his speciality during the absence of his colleagues.
2.13
To acquire and maintain a valid certification in Advanced Cardiac Life
Support (ACLS).
2.14
Strives to improve his/her clinical expertise as well as standard of practice
with regard to morbidity and cost effectiveness.
2.15
Participates in the Major disaster Plan of the hospital, as indicated.\
2.16
Performs other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the realm of his/her
knowledge, skills and abilities, within the hospital and/or affiliated medical
facilities.

REQUIREMENTS:
4.1 Qualifications or Relevant Experience:
4.1.1
Graduate from a recognized medical university.
4.1.2
Saudi Board or equivalent higher qualification in General Surgery.
4.2 Personal Qualities:
4.2.1
Ability to assume greater responsibility in matters of patient care.
4.2.2
Commitment to learning and training in pursuance of a career in his
chosen speciality.
4.2.3
Ability to deal calmly, with tact and diplomacy to patient and staff
alike.
4.2.4
Ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment.
4.3 Experience:
4.3.1
A minimum of five (5) years training/experience in general surgery
post internship rotation in a recognized center.
4.3.2
Experience in cardiac Surgery.
4.3.3
Experience in teaching and research.
