Senior Registrar Cardiac Surgery
RESPONSIBLE FOR:
Clinical Management of allocated patients
ACCOUNTABLE TO:
Consultant Cardiac Surgeon. Subordinate
staff (only those for whom the jobholder is
directly responsible Registrars and residents).
Essential collaborative relationship with all
staff in other medical and surgical
departments.

JOB SUMMARY:
1.1
To exercise the highest possible standard of patient care according to his
clinical privileges and available resources.
1.2
To participate in the training and teaching programme of the hospital.
1.3
To actively participate in the Directorate and Programme-wide clinical and
management activities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
2.1
Abides by the Medical Staff Bylaws, Code of Medical ethics, Rules and
regulations of the Medical Staff and those specific to the department/division.
2.2
Provides the highest attainable standard of medical care for the patients for
whom he/she is responsible.
2.3
Carries out full range of inpatient and outpatient clinical duties as assigned by
the director/head of department and the Consultant Cardiac Surgeon in
accordance with individually approved clinical privileges.
2.4
Participates in the on-call duties as required by the department/division.
2.5
Teaches staff assigned for training purposes, and participates with the
director/head of the department and the Consultant in planning a programme
of career development for trainees.
2.6
Participate in the improvement of quality of patient care (CQI & PS
Programme, Quality Assessment Improvement Programme) as applicable.

Fulfills the requirements of the Saudi Council for Health Specialities with
regard to continuing medical education.
2.8
To acquire and maintain a valid certification in Advanced Cardiac Life
Support (ACLS)
2.9
Participates in and/or actively supports approved research projects.
2.10
Deputizes for the Consultant Cardiac Surgeon as required and shares workload
in his specialty during the absence of his colleagues.
2.11
Strives to improve his clinical expertise as well as standard of practice with
regard to morbidity and cost effectiveness.
2.12
Participate in the Major Disaster Plan of the hospital, as indicated.
2.13
Performs other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the realm of his/her
knowledge, skills and abilities, within the hospital and/or affiliated medical
facitlities.
HOURS OF WORK:
48 hours per week plus on-call commitment.

Qualifications or Relevant Experience:

Graduate from a recognized medical university.
Saudi Board or equivalent higher qualification in General Surgery.
Sub-specialty certificate in Cardiac Surgery.
Personal Qualities:

Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.

Ability to speak Arabic and English.

N.B.
A minimum of two (2) years structured training in Cardiac Surgery in a
recgonised center, after obtaining the qualification in General Surgery
(Category A+B hospitals).
Experience in the organization of teaching of undergraduates and
postgraduates and paramedical training.
Publisher of original work, has participated or preferably led original
research.
As laid down by the Hospital Programme and subject for amendment.
Remuneration will be commensurate with the category indicated above.
