ACCESSIBILITY SERVICES CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY EAST BAY Hayward 510-885-3868 | Concord 925-602-6716 | Online www.csueastbay.edu/as AUDIO-RECORDED LECTURES Students are eligible for audio-recording accommodations if their disability impairs access to classroom lectures. As always, notify your professors of your accommodations as soon as classes begin. 1. Purchase or borrow an audio recorder. 2. Let professors know you plan to record lectures. 3. Discuss with professors any concerns about recording lectures. 4. Agree to follow the audio-recording policies. 1. Purchase or borrow an audio recorder. Students generally purchase their own audio recording devices (such as a digital voice recorder). Accessibility Services and related offices are not responsible for providing audio recorders, but may have some recorders available for loan on a quarterly basis through the Assistive Technology Office. These recording devices are loaned in a first come, first served manner and must be returned promptly at the end of the quarter. 2. Let professors know that you plan to record lectures. Contact your professors before the first class to notify them that you are approved by Accessibility Services to audio record lectures as a disability-related accommodation. When you speak with professors, show them your Determination of Accommodations document so they can verify your accommodation. 3. Discuss with professors any concerns about recording lectures. Instructors may feel that it is inappropriate to record certain class discussions. You are approved to record lectures, but not necessarily discussions in which other students may reveal personal information. If necessary, you or your instructor may ask an Accessibility Services counselor to help make this distinction. Your instructor may ask you to sign the Certification and Rules Governing Recording Lectures agreement, which is available in the Accessibility Services office. Meet with your instructor during office hours to review this agreement. If an instructor has additional concerns, contact your Accessibility Services counselor. 4. Agree to follow the audio-recording policies listed below: Students will notify instructors and come to an agreement regarding any concerns professors have prior to engaging in any audio recording. Students will use the recordings solely in pursuit of their educational program, not for any commercial or non-educational purposes. Students will not engage in any secret recordings of lectures or interactions. Students will not share the recordings with other students or anyone else. Students will erase the recordings at the conclusion of the course (within 14 days after issuance of a grade) unless they obtain written authorization from the instructor to retain the recordings beyond this period.
