I’m the girl that’s wearing the softball jacket with the gray pants. At Mohonk Preserve we looked at conglomerate and shale. The shale was very breakable and the conglomerate was really rough. The rock I’m sitting on is called conglomerate rock. The chaperones had a clipboard and a pencil and there were five questions on it. One column was for the conglomerate rock and the other column was for the shale rock. The guides that lead the way gave each group a nail and a penny for one of the five questions. The question was can the nail scratch the conglomerate rock and the conglomerate rock scratched the nail and the nail scratched the shale. If you climb on the shale it will fall from under your feet! We had an invisible line that we couldn’t pass or else we would have been asked to sit out. The shale had a lot of millipedes on it. On the shale nobody got asked to sit out and not participate in the activity. The picture above is a hill of shale. As you can tell from the picture of shale it is very breakable. If you went to high you would fall or drop and get hurt. That’s why we had an invisible line so nobody would get hurt. It was a very, very fun trip to Mohonk Preserve. I hope you liked my Conglomerate and Shale Piece.
