Waste Management Food Vendor Guidelines
Willamalane Park and Recreation District is proud to have a reduced waste SummerFest. Your
support and participation in this project is appreciated and vital for success. As a result of our efforts to
recycle and compost, we expect to reduce the overall material going to the landfill from this event up to
70% or more. The system includes recycling of standard materials such as glass, cardboard and plastic
bottles/tubs/jars and also of clean plastic bags, metals and cooking grease. We will also collect
compostables which include food waste and paper products. THANK YOU FOR YOUR COOPERATION!

Use WAXED or OTHER COMPOSTABLE CUPS instead of plastic or plastic coated. Waxed or
compostable cups break down in the composting process. Another option is recyclable cans and
plastic bottles.
Use PAPER products that are compostable with our system, and do NOT use any plastic lined
plates or bowls. STYROFOAM IS BANNED!
Use RESUSABLE BULK CONDIMENTS. Individual condiment containers are not recyclable and
contaminate the composting and generate waste. Please note that condiments include coffee
creamer, sugar, etc.
Do NOT GIVE OUT STRAWS AND LIDS unless requested. Straws and lids are garbage items.
Use DURABLE SILVERWARE or COMPOSTABLE CORN UTENSILS. Durable silverware will be
provided for vendors to purchase from an outside company. Cost is .05 per piece. Clean
silverware is provided in a user friendly container. Another receptacle is provided for dirty
silverware which will be gathered, washed and restocked. Vendors choosing not to use this
service must provide compostable corn utensils that can be composted at Rexius. No potato
starch utensils can be composted.
It is our intent to provide water refill stations for event attendees to refill their water containers.
FOLLOW attached guidelines for recycling/composting and foodware purchases. There are numerous
suppliers of appropriate foodware. Below are a few that have been recommended to us. They are
considered possible solutions for your food service needs and are in no way endorsed by event staff.
