Computer Systems Data Backup Procedure I. Overview A. It is the responsibility of the Systems Engineer to maintain and monitor data backup for YUI. B. YUI uses two major computer systems for business processes 1) AS/400 – A MRP based manufacturing software package 2) PC network – A Linux based Intranet/e-mail/e-document system C. These system’s data is backed-up on a daily basis II. Servers A. AS/400 - A model 800 IBM I-Series server that runs the manufacturing software B. PC Network Server – A HP Proliant M330 G3 server that runs email, intranet, and provides shared file storage for the PC network III. Backup Procedures A. The backup of the AS/400 is semi-automated. 1) The AS/400’s data is backed-up nightly to tape per a process provided by CCS (the vendor for our MRP software) 2) Each day (Monday through Friday) the tape removed and replaced witht a tape labeled for that day. 3) There are 2 “Friday” tapes. Each Friday a tape is sent home with a YUI employee for offsite storage who then returns that tape the next Friday to be swapped 4) Upon successful completion a system message is sent to the Systems Engineer confirming the success of each backup B. The backup of the PC network server is semi-automated. 1) The PC server is backed-up nightly to tape. 2) Each day (Monday through Friday) the tape is removed and replaced with a tape labeled for that day. 3) There are 2 “Friday” tapes. Each Friday a tape is sent home with a YUI employee for offsite storage who then returns that tape the next Friday to be swapped 4) Upon successful completion an E-mail is sent to the Systems Engineer confirming the success of each backup C. Vital Intranet service files are mirrored to a drive on the AS400 each night. 1) Via rsync all files for the barcode/shipping software, intranet programs, and databases are mirrored to a drive on the AS400 for quick recovery. This is a daily automated process handled by the PC server through the cron service. Data Backup Procedure Rev Date 02/22/07
