City of La Porte Emergency Operations Center (EOC) Subject: Tropical Storm Gustav Situation Report # 3 Time: 15:35 Date: 8-29-2008 Situation: EOC is NOT activated at this time OEM is currently monitoring Tropical Storm Gustav for potential impact to the city. EOC Staff have been briefed Tentative meeting of EOC staff scheduled for 4:30pm on Saturday. Critical Decision timeline is set for Saturday 5:00pm City vehicles have been fueled in preparation Employees have been notified of the current situation Weather forecast: At 1PM CDT, the center of Tropical Storm Gustav is located near 18.8N/79.3W, or about 125 miles east-southeast of Grand Cayman Island. Movement is to the west-northwest at 11 mph. Maximum winds are 70 mph. A recon plane is currently investigating Gustav. The plane has not sampled Gustav's northeast quadrant where the strongest winds would be located. We think that Gustav is probably a hurricane now, and the plane should confirm this within the next hour or two. Gustav should go through a rapid intensification phase over the next 24-36 hours as it passes the Cayman Islands and moves toward western Cuba, likely becoming a major Category 3 hurricane before reaching western Cuba. We do not anticipate making any significant changes to the forecast track on our 3PM CDT advisory. Model guidance remains focused on the mid Louisiana coast for landfall on Tuesday morning.
