President - Scott Lane 599-7240 Vice President – Mrs. Cindy Williams Secretary – Clarence Johnson Treasurer – Carl Williams, M.D. [website – www.sabbsa.org ] [P.O. Box 34478, San Antonio, TX 78265] SABBSA- Believing the Bible from the first verse 2008 International Conferences on Creationism & Genetic Entropy This month’s newsletter will give you information about this year’s International Creation Conference and the organization which sponsors it. I think you will be intrigued to find that their history of organization and their values bear a strong resemblance to SABBSA. We will also capsule Mr. Lane’s August presentation on Genetic Entropy and give you a taste of what’s coming at our September meeting. The International Conferences on Creationism, (ICC) have served to greatly further the creation model of origins. The 2008 International Conference on Creationism, sponsored by the Creation Science Fellowship, Inc. (CSF) and the Institute for Creation Research is extending the high standards set in the previous five conferences (1986, 1990, 1994, 1998. 2003). The ICCs have been recognized as the world's premier gathering of creation researchers. ICC2008 was dedicated to providing: 1. A technical forum for the latest creation research, and 2. A coherent platform for the pedagogical, professional, and legal issues involved in the teaching of creation science at the secondary and tertiary levels. The papers submitted to the ICC are subject to peer-review. The guidance for this rigorous review process and the resulting final paper are contained in the following governing documents: Technical Review Process, Overview and Procedures Instructions to Authors (Requirements, Procedures, and Paper Mechanicals) History The Creation Science Fellowship sponsored the First International Conference on Creationism (ICC) in Pittsburgh in 1986. The Second International Conference on Creationism was held in July/August 1990. The International Conference's are recognized around the world as the preeminent gathering for technical exchange on the topic of creation science. The ICC brings together the world's top creationists for a technical conference. It has two main purposes: general and technical. Its intention is to provide something for everyone, from entry level presentations on various topics in creation science to a highly technical, peer reviewed symposium, with planned rebuttals and discussions. Below is a listing from their website of the papers presented at this year’s conference. The group was multi-disciplined and energetic. Within a year the group grew to over 50 individuals, including 15 with Ph.D. degrees and at least 20 others with M.S., B.S., and B.A. degrees. In 1986, CSF was incorporated as a non-profit educational corporation in Pennsylvania with a 5 member board of Directors. It was later granted federal 501.C.3 tax exempt status. In the beginning the fellowship met monthly in a member's home. The group quickly outgrew that space and spent the next two years gathering at meeting rooms in area hotels. In 1983, the group found a home at the Northland Public Library in McCandless Township. In 1990 CSF began to meet at the Christian and Missionary Alliance (CMA) Church at Allegheny Center and then in 1998 to the Mars Alliance Church. Today, CSF has left its monthly meeting format and is now focused on sponsoring quarterly events at various locations around Pittsburgh featuring well known creation science speakers. Recent speakers include Terry Mortenson (PhD Historical Geology), Jerry Bergman (PhD Micro Biology), Larry Vardiman (PhD Atmospheric Science), David Menton (PhD Cell Biology) and Danny Faulkner (PhD Astronomy). CSF has the distinct privilege of sponsoring the premier young-earth creation science conference known as the International Conference on Creationism (ICC). This unique conference features a rigorous peer-review process for papers which help to build a systematic creation model of origins. The very successful First ICC was held at Duquesne University in 1986. The Second ICC (1990) and the Third ICC (1994) were also held at Duquesne. The Forth (1998) and Fifth (2003) ICC were held at Geneva College in Beaver Falls. The Sixth ICC will be held on August 3-7 at the Radisson Green Tree in Pittsburgh, PA. This ICC is cosponsored by CSF and the Institute for Creation Research in Dallas, TX. For more details, please visit the official ICC web site at www.icc08.org. Sponsorship of ICC has increased the stature of CSF in the creation science community and is the forum of choice for researchers to present their technical papers. It is often called upon by the local press, media, churches, and other groups as a spokesman for and a resource on creation science because of the strict scientific discipline adhered to in the technical papers. Creation Science Fellowship Principles: 1. We believe the Bible to be a divinely inspired, historically accurate book. 2. Nature reveals the handiwork of God. The study of natural phenomena using scientific methods, will help us to understand God's created order. 3. The basic forms of life, including man, were created, not evolved, by God as independent functional entities, and subsequent variations of these original forms have been bounded. 4. The Genesis flood was a historical, global event. 5. As Christians we believe that salvation, made necessary by the fall of Adam and Eve, comes only through the redemptive work of Christ Genetic Entropy Our August meeting featured a power point presentation containing an overview of the findings in Dr. J. C. Sanford’s book “Genetic Entropy & the Mystery of the Genome.” The fascinating key points of his book are: 1. The genome is an instruction manual, made with such complexity as to ensure that it was designed by a higher intelligence; 2. DNA is not only comprised of a linear code, but multiple linear codes; 3. DNA exhibits information storage beyond comprehension with data compression; 4. 1st level RNA reads series of 4 letters to make words (instructions) (C, G, T, A); 5. 2nd level information – multiple instruction pieces from different points on different genes; 6. There are genes that regulate genes that regulate genes; 7. The 3rd Level of information is formatted in 3 dimensional reading of information (POLYCONSTRAINED INFORMATION); 8. Kimura’s “No Selection Zone” along with “selection noise” research guarantee that almost all deleterious and essentially all positive mutations will never be selected for by natural selection; 9. The mutation rate in our genes is much higher than previously thought and guarantees a decline of ours and all terrestrial organism’s fitness such that all life on this planet will be extinct in 300 generations if an intervention is not found (the curse at work); 10. Natural Selection works only at the organism level and due to this and “selection noise” it is very limited in its effect (it almost never selects for a single point mutation); 11. We cannot defeat this degeneration of our genome by “truncation selection” due to the cost to our gene pool of eliminating 67% of each generation; 12. All of this means that both macro-evolution and positive speciation are physically impossible; 13. Neither Cloning nor Eugenics can reverse this phenomena of degeneration; 14. The way out of all of this is Jesus Christ! This power point presentation is now part of our 10 hours of presentations and available upon request at your organization or church! Our September meeting will feature the video “"Flock of Dodos, the Evolution - Intelligent Design Circus." When this film premiered a couple of years ago at UTSA our own Dr. Carl Williams represented the creationist community in this area by being one of the responders to the film. He will host this viewing and lead a discussion of the film. This film was developed by an evolutionist who believed he was doing a documentary exploring both sides of the controversy. Instead, he ended up with a piece slanted toward evolution, but lamenting why the general public still believes in creation despite their efforts? As always, we will meet at the Jim’s Restaurant at the corner of San Pedro and Ramsey on September 9th, 2008 at 7 pm. Please join us!
