Definitions
Company requirements refer to instructions to staff on policy and procedures that are
communicated in an oral or written form. These requirements must include
legislation and safety requirements and may include but are not limited to –
manufacturer’s instructions, industry codes of practice and standards.
Seafood processing machine refers to an automated machine used for processing
seafood. Examples may include but are not limited to – multi-head weighers, on-line
labellers, vacuum packing machines, ink-jet machines, tray machines.

The candidate is required to select one type of automated seafood processing
machine and must provide evidence for each element on that machine.

Element 1
Describe the operation of an automated seafood processing machine used in a seafood
processing plant.
Performance criteria
1.1
Calibration procedures for the machine are described in accordance with
company requirements.
1.2
Procedures for changing product lines are described in accordance with
company requirements.
1.3
Procedures for machine or process failure are described in accordance with
company requirements.
1.4
Safety features of the machine are described in accordance with company
requirements.
1.5
Consequences of incorrect machine settings and machine operation are
described in accordance with company requirements.
Range
may include but is not limited to – product, company, customer.
Evidence is required for three consequences.
Element 2
Prepare and set up an automated seafood processing machine used in a seafood
processing plant.
Performance criteria
2.1
Processing schedule and associated product specifications are confirmed prior
to production commencement in accordance with company requirements.
2.2
Calibration procedures for the machine are carried out in accordance with
company requirements.
2.3
Machine is prepared and set up in accordance with company requirements.

3.1
Machine is operated in accordance with company requirements.
Range

contamination control, routine monitoring, start-up and shut-down.
3.2
Procedures for changing product lines are followed in accordance with company
requirements.

Procedures for machine or process failure are followed in accordance with
company requirements.

evidence may be gathered through simulated assessment.
Safe work practices are used during operation of the machine in accordance
with company requirements.
Please note
Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated
authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against
unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register
credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
Accreditation requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this
standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP). The
AMAP also includes useful information about special requirements for organisations
wishing to develop education and training programmes, such as minimum qualifications for
tutors and assessors, and special resource requirements.
