Thanksgiving Point Signs Exclusive Five-Year Agreement with National Exploratorium Exhibition Program Hands-on Traveling Exhibits to Complement the Proposed Museum of Natural Curiosity LEHI, Utah (April 29, 2008) –Thanksgiving Point has signed a five-year exclusive agreement with the Exploratorium Network (ExNET), a prestigious national partnership that provides traveling hands-on exhibits to engage children and adults in the areas of science, art and human perception. “We wanted to partner with Exploratorium to go beyond just ‘cool’ traveling exhibits that engage learning, research, development and the exchange of ideas in interactive education,” said Blake Wigdahl, Thanksgiving Point director of programming. “Through our ExNET partnership we’ll collaborate with other museums and universities on innovative methods being developed to transform science education, which will benefit guests of the Museum of Natural Curiosity and Thanksgiving Point in addition to the exhibits from one of the world’s leading science education institutions.” ExNET exhibits are hands-on educational displays, intended for people of all ages. The partnership between Thanksgiving Point and Exploratorium includes a mixture of shared exhibits, periodic presentations from visiting Exploratorium professional educators and scientists and collaboration with the 13 other ExNET museums and universities nationwide to share ideas for creative education and research and development of interactive exhibits. Starting in August 2009, Thanksgiving Point will feature its first Exploratorium exhibition made up of 12 individual exhibits on magnetism and perception including black sand, blind spots, magnetic waves, motor effects and other displays of science in action. Future planned exhibitions coming to Thanksgiving Point center around light, motion, tinkering and listening and will be as large as 40 different exhibits. ExNET exhibitions will be housed at the Thanksgiving Point Museum of Ancient Life for the first two years until Thanksgiving Point’s proposed Museum of Natural Curiosity children’s museum is complete. The Museum of Natural Curiosity has planned 3,500 square feet of exhibit space to house Exploratorium exhibits and other special exhibits. Each exhibition will stay at Thanksgiving Point for one year and will be part of regular museum admission.
