Palliative Care Guidelines The full text of the Palliative Care (Adult) Network Guidelines is freely available on-line. Other items of general interest (i.e. outside Wales) can be found on the main website of Palliative Care Matters. Announcements NICE guideline - Care of dying adults The NICE guideline has been published on "Care of dying adults in the last days of life". This guideline covers the clinical care of adults (18 years and over) who are dying during the last 2 to 3 days of life. It aims to improve end of life care for people in their last days of life by communicating respectfully and involving them, and the people important to them, in decisions and by maintaining their comfort and dignity. The guideline covers how to manage common symptoms without causing unacceptable side effects and maintain hydration in the last days of life. Read more ... DNACPR videos In 2015, the All Wales DNACPR policy 'Sharing and Involving' was launched. As part of this roll-out, a number of videos were produced for NHS Wales by patients, doctors, nurses and healthcare professionals as a co-production between Healthboards and Trusts. The aim of these short films is to raise the issue of Do Not Attempt Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (DNACPR) for patients with life-limiting and palliative illnesses in Wales. It is hoped that this will help nurture open and honest discussions and forward planning. Read more ...
