There is no data to prove why the tectonic plates move, but we know they are still moving today. This is where we get earth quakes from. The Earth is the only one of its kind; it appears to be the only planet that is still volcanically and tectonically active. This is how we are able to stay alive according to plate tectonics. Most earthquakes and volcanic eruptions do not strike randomly but occur in specific areas, such as along plate boundaries. Because many major population centers are located near active fault zones, such as the San Andreas, millions of people have suffered personal and economic losses as a result of destructive earthquakes (USGS). We as humans didn’t know much about the forces of nature when we started to build upon them. Earthquakes and Volcanoes are so powerful they can wipe out cities, and far worse cause deaths. Over this short time spend I have learned more about earthquakes and volcanoes then I ever new. I learned about the theory of plate tectonics. I have learned the different types of volcanoes and about the most active one in Hawaii. I have learned the different types of lava flow.
