Supplementary material 4: Genetic relationships and distribution of chloroplast haplotypes across tropical America and New Guinea: comparison of the median-joining network obtained for tropical American accessions using seven chloroplast SSRs (data already published in Roullier et al. [2011]) and the network adapted for New Guinean accessions using only six polymorphic chloroplast SSRs. H1 and H2 became one haplotype (H1_2), as did H6 and H9 (H6_9) and H23 and H16 (H23_16). One-bp mutation events are indicated by the name of the locus concerned. Circle size is proportional to the number of accessions that carry a given haplotype. For each haplotype, the proportion of accessions from Southern and Northern neotropical genepools that carry the haplotype is represented in black and grey, respectively. Similarly, the proportion of highland and lowland New Guinea accessions carrying the haplotype are indicated in black and grey, respectively.
