Course guidelines and policies:

1.

Reading Assignments- The required reading assignments are listed on your outline. The text for this course is intended to provide further explanation of concepts covered in lecture and to supplement the lectures by presenting additional information. You are responsible for these reading assignments on the exams.

2.

In-class and Take-home assignments- There will be several in-class and take-home assignments. In-class assignments are designed to be completed in-class, therefore students must be present on the day of the assignment to participate. Unless otherwise stated, in-class assignments are due the day after they are handed out. The penalty for late assignments is

10% off for each day late. After one week, the late item will not be accepted. Any classes and assignments missed due to illness, or family emergencies will be excused upon receipt of a doctor’s note.

3.

Exams- All exams in this course will be of necessity comprehensive. Meteorology is a science that builds one concept upon another and therefore all tests must contain some previously covered material. However, the exams will be oriented toward the section of the course most recently presented. The exams will cover concepts covered in lecture and in the required course readings.

Each student must receive equal opportunity to demonstrate his/her comprehension of basic concepts; therefore, all students will take exams on the same day. There is, in other words, no provision for make-up exams. Exceptions obviously will be made for serious illness or family or medical emergencies. YOU MUST INFORM ME WITHIN 36 HOURS OF THE

SCHEDULED EXAM. IF YOU FAIL TO RECEIVE APPROVAL FOR A MAKE-UP

WITHIN THIS TIME FRAME, YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED A MAKE-UP FOR

ANY REASON! A grade of ‘0’ will be given in these instances.

4.

Class Attendance- Since this is a winter session class the course material will be covered somewhat quickly. In order to get a good grade your class attendance is very important. Out of fairness to the rest of the class, lecture notes and exam reviews are not made available outside of class. If you happen to miss class, please borrow a fellow student’s notes. After doing this, if you have any additional questions I will be happy to answer them during office hours.

5.

Final Grade- The final grade for this course is broken up into two parts. The in-class and take-home assignments will be worth 30% of the grade, and the 3 exams will be worth the other 70%. This makes attendance and class participation an important component of the final grade. After the final exam, the distribution of total points earned by all students will be examined.

There will be no extra credit of any kind given on an individual basis in this course.
