Purpose:
The National Psoriasis Foundation (NPF) is seeking grant applications that encourage the advancement of innovative research into psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. Translational Research
Grants fund research initiatives that focus on the rapid translation of basic scientific discoveries into clinical applications with a clear benefit for patients with psoriatic disease.
Special Consideration:
Applications related to all aspects of psoriatic disease are strongly encouraged, including basic science, technology, and clinical research. This year, NPF strongly encourages Translational
Research Grant proposals in the following subject areas:
Psoriatic Arthritis: As many as 30 percent of patients with psoriasis develop psoriatic arthritis 1 . NPF is committed to serving this community by supporting research to help us better understand the causes of psoriatic disease and improve diagnosis and treatment with the hope of one day finding a cure.
Public Health: There remains a significant need to better understand public health issues related to psoriatic disease 2 . NPF encourages proposals related to all fields of public health including epidemiology, health informatics, and health services. NPF strongly encourages proposals that will use existing large datasets to answer novel research questions.
Comorbidities: Psoriasis is a systemic disease that often extends beyond the skin to affect cardiovascular health, metabolic function, and more 3 . NPF strongly encourages proposals that will help us understand the relationship between psoriasis and its comorbidities, identify patients at risk for developing them and improve treatment.
Prospective applicants are encouraged to review the CDC Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis Public
Health Agenda 2 and the recent publication identifying research gaps in psoriasis 3 to find other relevant research topics.
Anticipated number of awards:
As many as five new Translational Research Grants will be awarded in 2016. Awards are contingent upon the availability of funds and the receipt of sufficiently meritorious applications.
Budget:
Applicants may request up to $100,000 (DIRECT COSTS ONLY) per year.
Project period:
The project period for this Request for Proposals is TWO YEARS, from May 1, 2016 to April 30,
2018.
Eligibility:
The principal investigator must be personally and actively responsible for the conduct of the proposed research, and eligible to apply for research grants under the guidelines of the applicant’s host institution. The principal investigator need not be a United States citizen and the research need not take place in the United States.
Important dates:
Applications must be received by FRIDAY, OCTOBER 2, 2015. Award notifications will be made no later than APRIL 15, 2016.
Application:
The Translational Research Grant Application is available at www.psoriasis.org/grants. All information regarding application length and format can be found in the application.
