1. Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the university. Attach an organizational chart with positions, ranges, and names for the division which reflects the position in it as well as those supervised in the department. (This section is

The Psychiatrist, Child and Adolescent, performs the duties of a clinical physician and acts as coordinator of the Las Vegas Child and Adolescent Clinic of the Mojave Adult, Child and Family

Services (MACFS) and fulfills clinical contracts as assigned. The positions’ responsibilities include evaluation and treatment of patients at MACFS outpatient clinics and contract agencies, teaching duties as assigned and administrative duties. Administrative duties may include collaboration with the

Medical Director in utilization review/quality assurance, supervision of staff and contract child psychiatrists, monitoring of productivity and revenues, compliance monitoring, and contract monitoring. In addition, the psychiatric clinic coordinator collaborates with the nursing coordinator, assistant office manager, and outpatient coordinator to provide input into decisions concerning the daily operation of the clinic. The psychiatric clinic coordinator facilitates a monthly meeting of staff and contract child psychiatrists to address program development, coordination of care, and maintenance of practice standards. The position reports to the Director, MACFS.

75% - Evaluation and Treatment of Patients

Perform the duties typically associated with a physician in an outpatient setting, to include: o patient examination and evaluation o diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric disorders o ordering and interpreting tests o documentation of clinical activities

Provide clinical supervision and training of medical students, residents, child/adolescent

 fellows, and nursing staff

Collaborate with Director of Nursing in training and supervision of nurses in the delivery of patient care

25% - Administrative Operations

Collaborate with the nursing coordinator, assistant office manager, and outpatient coordinator to provide input into decisions concerning the daily operation of the clinic.

Supervise clinic child psychiatrists

Facilitate monthly meeting of staff and contract child psychiatrists to address program development, coordination of care, and maintenance of practice standards in the clinic

Participate in community meetings concerning children’s services as assigned

Collaborate with the Medical Director, MACFS, in utilization review and quality assurance activities to include peer review and billing/coding audits

Participate in planning and implementation of fellowship program in child and adolescent psychiatry

Administer and monitor contract services as assigned

Level of Freedom:

The Physician must take initiative and use own judgment in conducting all clinical responsibilities.

The incumbent has considerable latitude for independent action in the delivery of clinical care, establishes procedures and priorities, and is evaluated on short- and long-term clinical outcomes and adherence to accepted standards of clinical care.

The incumbent works as an equal team member with the child/adolescent nursing coordinator, assistant office manager, and outpatient coordinator to ensure that clinic operations proceed smoothly and adhere to all legal and regulatory requirements. The Coordinator acts autonomously to facilitate a monthly meeting of child/adolescent psychiatric staff in order to clarify and encourage the clinical interests and professional goals of psychiatric staff, develop consensus and a shared vision regarding the mission and future direction of the clinic, and produce recommendations for the clinic coordinator team concerning these and other issues pertaining to quality and continuity of care and clinic operations.

Impact:

As clinicians, accurate and complete performance of the job duties associated with these positions is crucial to patient health. Coordination of work efforts with other clinic staff ensures adequate psychiatric input into clinic operations and to avoid legal consequences. The incumbent is expected to provide active, participatory leadership in the performance of the responsibilities of the position within the child and adolescent clinic, and works in a collaborative manner under the direction of MACFS administration in order to ensur e the success and credibility of the clinic’s work and the reputations of

MACFS, UNSOM, and the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE).

Medical education obtained by completing an Liaison Committee on Medical Education

(LCME) accredited medical school and an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical

Education (ACGME) accredited residency in family medicine, psychiatry or similar discipline, or a program with a similar level and intensity of training
