REPORT TEMPLATE FOR GRANTED APPLICATIONS FOR COMPUTING TIME

PLEASE BE AWARE OF THE FOLLOWING:

Submission of your report

Your report must be submitted via the NWO “Iris” system at www.iris.nwo.nl

. You can log in to IRIS with the account and password you used for submitting the application (this should always be the main applicant’s account). Once logged-in, select “Projects”, then select the project you want to update – for IRIS submission of a project corresponds to an update - (for continuation projects you need to select the project number followed by the correct year of the project, i.e. 10 for 2010 or 11 for 2011) by clicking on the “update” button, use the button

“New project update”, and under “Report” complete the “Report” form by filling in the title box and the digital report template, and complete the “public text” item. Then upload your report as an attachment in PDF format.

Final important step: once your report (now called a project update) has been uploaded, the status will be: “ready to submit”. To complete the process you have to go back to the main menu and click the button “submit project updates”; select the update and submit it with your password.

Submission of “achieved results” (products)

“Products” mean publications directly resulting from the computing time used in the project and in which NWO

Physical Sciences has been acknowledged. Products are described under question 7d of this template and must also be submitted via the NWO Iris system.

Follow the steps as mentioned above under “submission of your report”, and under “Products” complete the various products as applicable for your project. Upload the attachments if applicable.

Only material that already has been published should be submitted. Products in preparation should be mentioned in your report under question 7d.1, and submitted via Iris as soon as they have been actually published.

ATTENTION: products should be submitted only once; please do not submit the same product again (e.g. in a project-update of a continuation project).

** The Dutch government has designated nine ‘top sectors’: areas of economic activity to which extra attention is to be devoted. They are: Agrifood, Chemicals, the Creative Industry, Energy, High-tech Systems and Materials,

Life Sciences, Logistics, Horticulture and Water. For further information, see www.top-sectoren.nl

.

State (where applicable) if and how your project proposal is relevant to one or more of the designated top sectors.

You should also include details of any proposed collaboration with the private sector if applicable.

This section will not affect the assessment but gives the GBE a better understanding of the manner in which proposals are relevant to the top sectors and the national economy.”

5. System(s) used

Mark

Bull bullx system (Cartesius) regular CPU nodes

Bull bullx system (Cartesius) GPU nodes

Dell National Computing Cluster (Lisa)

6. Amount of computing time used

The unit of computing time used is SBU (System Billing Unit).

Cartesius: one SBU corresponds to the usage of one core of the system for one hour. Cartesius batch nodes either have 24 cores (thin nodes, the majority), 32 cores (fat nodes), or 16 cores + 2 GPUs (GPU nodes). For the GPU nodes we do not charge the number of CPU cores but we charge the number of CPU cores times three.

Consequently:

-

using a fat node for one hour costs 32 SBU,

-

using a thin node for one hour costs 24 SBU,

using a GPU node for one hour costs 48 SBU.

Lisa:

Cartesius GPU: For the GPU nodes we do not charge the number of GPU cores but we charge the number of CPU cores times three. Consequently: three SBU corresponds with the usage of one CPU core of the system for one hour.

Project Type one SBU corresponds to the usage of one core of the system for one hour. Lisa nodes have 12 or

16 cores.

Requested amount (SBU) Actual used amount (SBU)

PROJECT Computing Time > 100.000 core hours
