Departmemt.
9. Clinical risk assessment and management for patients with severe mental illness and/or
psychopathic disorders using a structured clinical assessment tool, the Historical Clinical Risk
Management (HCR-20). I received formal training on the use of HCR-20 organised by the
Institute of Psychiatry Forensic Unit, London.
10.Medico-legal reports on any of the above; I attended 3 day training course on medico-legal
writing and presenting to the courts in March 2007. The course was organised by
Professional Solutions Ltd.
11. Reports relating to Child Care Proceedings for Family Courts; my area of expertise is the role of
parental addiction on rearing practices. Thus, I was invited by Judge Ludlow as a guest speaker to
the Ipswich Family Court annual conference in May 2007 to deliver a talk on ‘the effects of parental
substance misuse on rearing practices and child development’. I have prepared reports on the
instructions of the Social Services.

Previous Work Experience:
Consultant in General Adult and Rehabilitation (PICU & Low Secure Services) Psychiatry at
Cawston Park Hospital between July 2007 to February 2009: Cawston Park Hospital is a specialist
hospital in Norfolk for people with complex mental illnesses such as Dual Diagnosis (mental illness
and substance misuse disorders), Substance Misuse, Psychotic Disorders, Bi-polar Affective Disorders,
Personality Disorders, Severe Depression and Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The patients
are detained under the Mental Health Act 1983 because of their mental disorder and the risk they pose
to either themselves or to the public or both.
Also, I was a visiting Consultant Psychiatrist at the following:
a. The Priory Hospital Chelmsford (December 2006 to March 2009):
I had visiting and admission rights to the hospital.
b. Focus12 (August 2007 to March 2009):
I undertook one weekly session to work as a Consultant Psychiatrist with Focus12 in Bury St
Edmunds. Focus12 is community-based drug and alcohol rehabilitation service based in Bury St
Edmunds, Suffolk.
c. The Clifton Clinic between December 2007 and March 2009:
I was the visiting Consultant Psychiatrist to the Clifton Clinic. The Clifton Clinic is a private residential
rehabilitation clinic based in Shefford, Bedfordshire.
Previous experiences:
1. Consultant Psychiatrist in Substance Misuse and Lead Clinician to Suffolk Mental Health
Partnership NHS Trust Substance Misuse Services from 29th December 2005 to August 2007
as a Consultant Psychiatrist in Substance Misuse. The post involved a number of roles:
i. Clinical role as lead clinician for the substance misuse service, and to provide advice on the
management of substance misuses with complex needs, and diagnosis and management of patients
with substance misuse problems and mental illness. From January 2007, I dedicated 4 clinical
sessions as a Consultant in General Adult Psychiatrist to the Haverhill Community Mental Health
Team (CMHT). The post includes two outpatient clinics, a ward round and a team meeting.
ii.
Managerial role as clinical lead. To develop the current drug and alcohol services and shape the
future of these services in Suffolk. I have enrolled with the British Association of Medical Managers
course in health management. I am a member of the Trust’s Medical Management Team (MMT).
iii. Training role; to supervise doctors working within the drug service, as well as providing clinical
supervision for other members of the team.
iv. Educational; I have two dedicated sessions as Clinical Tutor for Psychiatric Trainees (both SHO and
SpR grades) and Undergraduate Medical Students from the School of Medicine at the University of
Cambridge. I regularly lecture at the Cambridge MRCPsych Course, Fulbourn Hospital, Cambridge and
part-time examiner at the University of Cambridge Medical School. I manage both the training budget
and SIFT with combined total of £560,000.
v. Research; I was conducting an ongoing research on the effectiveness of supervised consumption
‘Randomised Controlled Trial on the effectiveness of supervised consumption’. The study has been
awarded the Research for Patient Benefit Programme (RfPB) is worth £250,000 over a three year
period) Also, I am supervising junior doctor’s audit. We are conducting an audit on ‘the prevalence
and pattern of alcohol-related problems within the patients attending West Suffolk Drug
Services’. I was a member of SMHPT’s Research Governance Committee. Also, I held a post as
a Clinical Research Fellow with the University of East Anglia’s School of Medicine, Health Policy and
Practice.
