PhD position in synthetic inorganic/organometallic chemistry A fully funded scholarship (NZ$25,000 per annum plus fees, for three years) is available to investigate the synthesis and properties of main group element hydrides stabilised by the incorporation of the organometallic ferrocenyl group. This project will be carried out in conjunction with Professor Brian Nicholson (University of Waikato), and Professor Eva Hey-Hawkins, University of Leipzig, Germany. Techniques used in this project will include organic and organometallic synthesis, multinuclear NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, electrochemistry and X-ray crystallography. The successful candidate will have a BSc Honours or MSc degree or equivalent in synthetic chemistry, though exceptional candidates with expertise in other areas will also be considered. The position commences on March 1st 2009, and the position will remain open until filled. Enquiries should be made to Professor Bill Henderson, ph (07) 838 4656, e-mail w.henderson@waikato.ac.nz.
