Job Description Admissions Team Member Job title: Admissions Team Member Location: St. Paul’s Cathedral, London EC4M 8AD Reporting to: Admissions Manager Head of Department: Director of Visitor Services, Marketing & PR Main purpose of job: To welcome all visitors and to provide appropriate access, information and assistance for the benefit of their visit and safety; to operate admissions tills. Main Duties 1. Proactively welcoming visitors and making them feel valued; creating a good first impression of St Paul’s people. 2. Respond to visitors’ enquiries in a positive and sympathetic manner. 3. Providing information and assistance as required. 4. Assisting at special services and events with managing the public inside and outside the Cathedral. 5. Staffing of tills at entrances to the Cathedral using correct till procedures, conversant with the technicalities of the process and its IT. 6. Carrying of sealed cash bags and sealed counter cache boxes to the Cash Office or the Senior Steward’s Office 7. Maintaining accuracy of cash/contents of till drawers 8. Troubleshooting and resolving minor equipment malfunction. 9. Checking visitors’ tickets at the designated entrances 10. Staffing the Cathedral Steps after the tills close, explaining to visitors why entry is temporarily barred. Responsible for closing the doors at the West End. 11. General security surveillance (including St Dunstan’s Chapel), including ensuring that visitors/tour groups do not gain unauthorised entry 12. Dealing with suspicious occurrences 13. Escorting lost children and assisting them to be reunited with their groups/families. 14. Assisting with the evacuation of the Cathedral in accordance with the emergency procedures 15. Awareness of and compliance with the Dean and Chapter’s Health & Safety and Child Protection Policies 16. Any other duties as detailed by the Admissions Manager The job description is an operational document that does not form part of your contract of employment. It may be that from time to time you are expected to perform tasks that may not be expressly in the job description but are nonetheless necessary in the day to day performance of your duties. Person Specification The person selected for the post of Admissions Team Member will: Have a friendly, helpful disposition and be able to relate easily to members of the public Have a good conversational manner in English, and ideally be fluent in a second language Have experience of customer service in a busy environment open to the public Be prepared to observe Cathedral rules and procedures, particularly with regard to Health & Safety regulations and emergency evacuation of the building Be competent in the use of information technology Be efficient and accurate in cash handling and computerised till operation (experience desirable) Be prepared to troubleshoot minor ticketing equipment malfunctions Maintain high standards of personal appearance and behaviour appropriate to the environment of a major place of worship Terms of Employment (summary) Probationary Period The appointment will be subject to a probationary period of three months. Salary Starting salary for a full time admissions team member: £16,540 per annum. Part time staff are paid at the same rate, adjusted pro rata. Overtime is paid for any hours worked in excess of 35 per week. Salaries are paid monthly. Hours of Work Basic hours of work are 7 per day, excluding a lunch break of one hour. Full time staff work five days a week, which may include Saturdays and/or Sundays. Rest days will vary according to the rota. Part time staff work one, two, three or four full days a week; the days may vary over the four weeks of the rota. Part time staff may have the opportunity to work additional days from time to time. Holiday For full time staff, 25 working days per year plus the 8 statutory holidays, to be taken by agreement with the Admissions Manager. Part time staff – pro rata. Season Ticket Loan A loan to purchase an annual season ticket is available after the probationary period. It is repayable by 10 equal monthly instalments by deduction from salary. Dress Cathedral Admissions Staff uniform will be supplied and must be worn exclusively; stewards are expected to conform to the Admissions Department’s rules concerning standards of personal appearance and hygiene. Smoking No smoking is allowed within any buildings on the Cathedral site. Disclosure and Barring Service Appointment to the post of Admissions Staff Member will be subject to the receipt of an Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). Possession of a criminal record will not necessarily bar an applicant from appointment and each case will be considered on its merits.
