TRIO CAMPAIGN
The Charlton Trio campaign was launched last Sunday with a visit from the Diocesan Stewardship Adviser
Liz Marsh. Here are some of the points from her presentation:
BELIEVE IT OR NOT . . .
It will cost £1,150 per week to run our church in 2009.
Ministry Expenses £46, Church and Services £180, Building £90, Parish Share £644, Sundries £190
Total £1,150
BUT OUR INCOME . . .
Direct Giving £215, Tax Recovered £36, Cash Collections £80, Fundraising £108, Other Income £46
Total £485
SO WE HAVE A CHALLENGE . . .
To break even we need an extra £665 per week.
Everyone who was in church last week should have received an envelope containing an explanatory leaflet
and a response form. You are asked to complete the response form as soon as possible and either bring it to
church and hand it to a churchwarden or post directly to Gill Carter at 22 Crabble Lane, Dover, Kent.
CT17 0LS. If you haven’t received an envelope please check in your pigeon hole or speak to one of the
churchwardens.
Fr Colin writes: It was good to see so many people in church last Sunday, responding to our request to make
the TRIO campaign a success. It will be a few weeks before we can rate its success. In the meantime thanks
are due to the working party which organised the campaign: chairman Dave Brewster supported by fellow
churchwarden Nanette Gleeson, treasurer Tony Jenner and former treasurer Gill Carter who now handles
the planned giving envelope scheme.
ANNUAL MEETING
Fr Colin writes: Following the TRIO launch last week, we had our annual church
meeting. I am pleased to say that we have two churchwardens … at the moment!
Dave Brewster, who should have retired after six years under the provisions of the
Churchwarden Measure of 2002, is staying on – at present – after a resolution was
passed that the Measure should not apply in Charlton. Nevertheless, because of
existing and possible new commitments Dave has said he will guarantee to stay on only
until mid May. Nanette Gleeson, who had intended to stand down on this occasion,
generously agreed to stay on and support a new warden. To enable Dave to take his
well-earned break and ensure the smooth running of the parish . . .
CHARLTON CHURCH
NEEDS
WE NEED A NEW CHURCHWARDEN!!!
YOU!!
Nanette and Dave will of course be on hand to help and advise someone who is new
to the job. All offers to Fr Colin please. Meanwhile the fabric report and Deanery Synod report which were
not available for the Annual Meeting can be found at the back of church. Please take a copy.
PARISH NEWS
SSC MEETS: The local group of the Society of the Holy Cross (Societas Sanctae Crucis) of which Fr Colin
is a member, is meeting at Charlton on Tuesday. The meeting is preceded by Mass at 12 noon.
CHRISTIAN AID: We need a volunteer to act as Charlton’s Christian Aid representative now that
Barbara Simpson has decided to relinquish the role. It involves three or four meetings a year and coordinating the church’s efforts during and around Christian Aid Week, which this year is from May 10-16.
PLEASE SUPPORT JOAN AND JANE!!:
Today, Jane English will be running her monthly
Fairtrade stall in the hall after the Parish Mass. And don’t forget, there is a bring and buy, bargain and
bric-a-brac stall at the back of church after the Parish Mass each Sunday, run by Joan Walker. It raised
about £100 in our first month and there is now a two week HALF PRICE SALE – everything at half the
marked price. This will make room for our new Summer collection.
CLARE & COURTNEY: The latest trans-Atlantic missive from the Solbergs in Ames, Iowa, can be
found on the notice board at the back of church.
DURING EASTERTIDE THE ANGELUS AT THE END OF MASS IS REPLACED BY THE REGINA
CAELI WHICH IS SUNG TO THE TUNE OF “JESUS CHRIST IS RISEN TODAY.”
Joy to thee, O Queen of heaven alleluia. He whom thou was meet to bear, alleluia.
As he promised hath arisen, alleluia. Pour for us to God thy prayer, alleluia.
Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, alleluia.
All: For the Lord has risen indeed, alleluia.
Priest: O God, who by the resurrection of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, you have brought joy to the whole
world: grant that by the help of His mother, the Virgin Mary, we may obtain the joys of everlasting life, through
Christ our Lord. Amen
