PROCLAMATION Whereas, each year for the past 22 years, Little League Baseball and Softball has recognized one grassroots volunteer from over one million plus volunteers who selflessly gives his utmost to league play at the local, regional and national levels; and Whereas, Fred Lewers, a 21-year resident of Palm Coast, became the consummate Little League volunteer over the past five decades, touching the lives of over 25,000 players, believing powerfully in the mission and purpose created by Little League programs and wanting to give something of himself back to his community; and Whereas, over the past 50 years, Fred Lewers served the Little League organization as mentor, manager, umpire, regional tournament host, Assistant District Administrator, Board of Director member, Treasurer and most importantly friend; and Whereas, Little League organizations specifically located in Palm Coast, Florida, and Staten Island, New York, and also throughout the nation, have been enhanced because of Fred Lewers’ tenacious efforts to deliver the joys of Little League to all youngsters; and Whereas, Fred Lewers and others chartered Palm Coast’s first Little League, grew membership in the League from two to forty teams and transformed the lives of hundreds of local ball players who have now built strong self-esteem and self-confidence thanks to Mr. Lewers’ magnanimous guidance; and Whereas, this past summer, Little League Baseball and Softball honored Fred Lewers as the 2011 Little League Volunteer of the Year, bringing International recognition not only to himself and his family, but also to Palm Coast Little League and the City of Palm Coast. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, THE PALM COAST MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL RECOGNIZE MR. FRED LEWERS AS 2011 LITTLE LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR And congratulate him on his extraordinary efforts to enrich the lives of young baseball and softball players across Palm Coast with the Little League experience.
