Mr. Brandt’s Lesson Plans (Week 13) Week of: November 10-14 Moonday Read Ch. 7 Sec. 2 – Oxidation Numbers o List the rules for assigning oxidation numbers. o Give the oxidation number for each element in the formula of a chemical compound. o Name binary molecular compounds using oxidation numbers and the Stock system. Read and understand the rules for assigning oxidation numbers. Do the Sec. 2 Worksheet and the additional worksheet. Read Ch. 7 Sec. 3 – Using Chemical formulas o Calculate the formula mass or molar mass of any given compound. o Use molar mass to convert between mass in grams and amount in moles of a chemical compound. o Calculate the number of molecules, formula units, or ions in a given molar amount of a chemical compound. o Calculate the percentage composition of a given compound. Understand how to find molar mass. We have done this. Use the formula on p. 230 to find percent composition. Do the Sec. 3 Worksheet and the additional worksheet. Read Ch. 7 Sec. 4 – Determining Chemical Formulas o Define empirical formula, and explain how the term applies to ionic and molecular compounds. o Determine an empirical formula from either a percentage or a mass composition. o Explain the relationship between the empirical formula and the molecular formula of a given compound. o Determine a molecular formula from an empirical formula. Look over examples in your textbook to learn how to do these problems. Do the Sec. 4 Worksheet and the additional worksheet. You should also start the Ch. 7 Review Worksheet. Work Day You have plenty to work on. Remember all worksheets will be due on Monday, when I get back. Make sure they are all done.
