ORGANISERS
International Hydrological Programme (IHP)
The UNESCO international scientific co-operative
programme in hydrology and water resources, the
IHP, was established to act as a catalyst to
promote co-operation and research in the
management of water resources, an issue which
had been identified as a significant limiting factor
for harmonious development in many regions and
countries of the world.
International Commission on Irrigation and
Drainage (ICID)
The mission of the ICID is to stimulate and
promote the development of the management of
water and land resources for irrigation, drainage,
flood control and river training applications,
including research and development and capacity
building.

SEMINAR PROGRAMME
SEMINAR OBJECTIVE
The Water Framework Directive is now in Irish
legislation and implementation will involve
significant work for a range of professionals
associated with water over the coming years,
involving the development of a thorough
understanding of the aquatic environment.
The existence of high-quality data on relevant
parameters and of sufficient spatial and temporal
coverage is required for the development of such
an understanding. Modelling is a tool to further
such understanding by simulating the impacts of
future policy changes or other natural occurrences.
The objective of the Seminar is to examine the
practical and theoretical issues associated with the
monitoring and modelling of water quality and
quantity that will be required to implement the
Water Framework Directive.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
 Local Authority Engineers
 Professionals involved with monitoring and
modelling of water quality and quantity
 Hydrologists and Environmental Engineers
 Other parties interested in the Water
Framework Directive
The programme provided below is accurate at the
date of printing, but may be subject to change.
