DELEGATION OF THE EUROPEAN UNION TO TURKEY
AVRUPA BİRLİĞİ TÜRKİYE DELEGASYONU
Turkish institutions and rural stakeholders have benefitted from an EU-funded project to expand the Farm Accountancy Data Network. The project's closing ceremony will be held on 12 December at the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and
Livestock.
During 18 months, experts from the Netherlands, Germany and Sweden have worked in close conjunction with staff of the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock to help bring the agriculture sector in Turkey closer to that of the EU. The development of the system of farm accounting will ultimately help inform stakeholders on the performance of the sector and assist policy makers in designing policies suitable to the competitive demands of the 21 st century.
The Farm Accountancy Data Network plays a vital role in European agriculture. It is an important tool to monitor the income situation in agriculture and it provides information for the development of the agricultural policy. Furthermore, it provides valuable information for farmers for benchmarking and improving their economic performance, which is in itself a worthwhile exercise for agricultural development, regardless of EU accession.
The project activities covered:
Promotion of the Farm Accountancy Data Network among farmers including those not yet book-keeping
Adaptation of accounting logbooks to capture the information at farm level
Development of advanced methods for data sampling and selection
Development of statistical methods for analyzing data
Evaluation of the Turkish Farm Accountancy Data Network structure at regional and provincial level
Strengthening of the IT system of the Farm Accountancy Data Network to meet requirements and its testing for compliance with EU standards.
The closing event will be attended by Mr. Michele Villani, Head of the Economy, Trade and
Agriculture Section of the EU Delegation to Turkey and Mr. Ferhat Selli, Deputy
Undersecretary of the Ministry of Food Agriculture and Livestock, as well as representatives from the partner countries, the Netherlands, Germany and Sweden.
