Cecil Leitch Trophy presented at Northants. County G.C. by Miss Leitch to winners
Kingsthorpe G.C.
The N.L.C.G.A. minutes started.
The County Championship was instituted in 1930, when Lady Annaly from nearby
Holdenby Manor presented the Trophy at Northants. Co. G.C.
Cecil Leitch Trophy Clubs playing, Peterborough, Walton Heath, Northants. Co.,
Northampton, Rushden, Kettering, Kingsthorpe and Wellingborough.
The County Championship was held for the first time.
N.L.C.G.A. took over the running of the Cecil Leitch Trophy from Northants. Co.
G.C.
County Division was Cambridgeshire & Huntingdonshire, Norfolk and Suffolk.
Walton Heath G.C. disappeared.
The two Peterborough Clubs amalgamated [Peterborough Gordon - Walton &
Milton] to form Peterborough Milton G.C.
County greensomes introduced and played at Kingsthorpe G.C. now possibly the
Handicap Foursomes.
SSS for Peterborough Milton G.C. [New course opened 14th July 1938].
Mrs Phipps presented the Junior Cup which was played at the County
Championship for ladies 11 handicap and above, second eight qualifiers now the
Bronze Championship.
County Committee suspended for the duration of World War 2.
County Committee reconvened after World War 2.
Northants. Co. and Peterborough Milton receive County Green status.
County Mixed introduced, Mrs D.Cooch presented the trophies, Ladies Greensomes
played a.m. and Mixed played p.m.
Junior Championship would be called the Phipps Cup and played at the County
Championship.
English Ladies Golf Association formed [ELGA].
County Foursomes introduced.
Mrs A. Timpson gave Runner-up Cup for the County championship.
Swannell Salver donated by Mrs K. Swannell, at this time the Championship had 3
separate match plays, the Championship [first 8], the Swannell Salver and the
Phipps Cup [handicaps 11 and over].
Bouverie Bowl held independently from the Championship for the first time, medal
a.m. foursomes p.m. Peterborough Milton were asked to hold the first Bouverie
Bowl, but were unable to do so, it was
held at Northants. Co. and has remained there ever since.
First 9 hole Girls Championship held at Wellingborough G.C. Mrs Collier of
Wellingborough donated the Junior Cup; Mrs Cooch donated the Handicap Cup.
Bouverie Bowl played over 2 days, Medal round day 1, Handicap foursomes day 2.
County Committee took over the running of the Girls Championship, 4 trophies held
at Wellingborough G.C. were handed over to the NLCGA by Mrs E. Gilbert, and 2
of these trophies were used for the runners-up of the County Foursomes.
County 1st Team played Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire, won
through to the Sub Divisional Finals where they were beaten by Staffordshire.
First Youth Organiser - Mrs Angela Duck of Northants. Co.
Veterans joined the NLCGA.
Mrs Carol Gibbs nee Lefeuvre represented Great Britain and Ireland in the Curtis Cup
in San Francisco G.B. & I 5 -USA 13. [Carol is a Northamptonshire member]
Miss Cecil Leitch former British Women’s Golf Champion died aged 86 years, she
won the title in 1914, 1920, 1921 & 1926 and presented the much sort after Cecil Leitch
Trophy to Northants. Co. in 1927.
Coronation Medals played on separate days, played in conjunction with the National
Playing Fields originally played in conjunction with the Bouverie Bowl.
New County colours introduced - Navy and White.
Mrs Russell donated County flag.
County Captains badge purchased.
The Professional Women's Golf Association formed.
N.G.U. allowed girls to play in the Boys Championship as a separate competition, if any
girls enter the NLCGA have 2 cups available for presentation. First girls Championship

Mrs Irene Hart, President presented the County with a New Flag.

New format introduced for the County Championship - [36hole] first 16 best gross play
matchplay, first matchplay winners go into Championship and losers into the Swannell
Salver.
November Delegates meeting open to all N.L.C.G.A. members without voting powers.
Scratch League formed, Trophy donated by Mrs Judy Ray Oundle G.C.
Mrs Gleeson provided a new Silver Band on the Bouverie Bowl Trophy.
Introduction of a Competitions Secretary.
Clock presented to Kingsthorpe G.C. for the many years the County have used their
Clubhouse for Delegates Meetings.
Mrs Sue Hennigan & Mrs Phil Cook of Peterborough Milton represented the
County in the L.G.U. Centenary Foursomes at St. Andrews, Scotland.
Centenary year for Oundle, Northampton and Wellingborough G.C.s.
Handicap Foursomes trophy presented by Mrs Muriel Curtis Kettering G.C.
Handicap Foursomes no longer played at Northants. Co. G.C. the first time for many
years.
Society of Past Captains join the N.L.C.G.A.
Presidents Badge purchased - presented to Mrs Peggy Coker Northants. Co. G.C.
The sad death of Mrs Laura White Kettering G.C. a former County Captain.
Appointment of Mrs Stephanie Wright Northants. Co. G.C. as deputy on the
E.L.G.A. Committee.
Miss Susanne Sharpe Peterborough Milton G.C. chosen to train with the England
Team in Spain at Las Brisas near Marbella will represent the England Ladies in the
Spanish Open.
Charity Trophy refurbished by Mrs G. Wild Northants. Co. G.C.
Northampton G.C. attained County Green status.
Introduction of ladies 4 Counties 36 hole scratch competition - Junior Quaich Trophy
presented by Mrs S. Wright, Team Shield presented by Mrs A. Duck.
Miss Kelly Hanwell Northampton G.C. selected to play for the under 18 England
Team and played in the Home Internationals, she also trained with the Intermediate
Team.
Mrs Janet Halliday Northants. Co. G.C. appointed as Northamptonshire's Standard
Scratch Assessor [ELGA appointment].
Miss Kelly Hanwell captained the English Schools team v Scotland and Wales, both
matches were won.
Kelly also won the Daily Telegraph Junior Championship at Hanbury Manor, which
won her a trip to Lake Nona U.S.A. for the Finals.
County purchased a runner-up shield for the Cecil Leitch Competition.
Miss Kelly Hanwell offered a 4 year scholarship to the University of Arkansas, U.S.A.
Introduction of County Fourball competition in place of the County Foursomes
Championship which had been lacking support. [County Foursomes Trophies given to
Northants. Co. for safe keeping].
The sad death of Mrs Hilda Castel Wellingborough G.C. a former County Captain.
Wellingborough G.C. presented 2 trophies in memory of Mrs H. Castel, [County
Fourball trophies].
Mrs Judy Ray appointed ELGA Junior Area Manager Midlands Division 1.
Goodyear Cup Centenary year.
Introduction of new handicap system.
The sad death of County President Mrs Peggy Coker Northants. Co. G.C. and Past
President Mrs Kath Lock Kettering G.C.
Millennium Committee formed from members of N.G.U. and N.L.C.G.A. to raise

Due to personal reasons Mrs Carol Gibbs resigned as England Selector, Mrs Angela
Duck Northants. Co. took over the post.
Mrs Kirstie Jennings Northants. Co. G.C. appointed as ELGA Junior Development
Officer.
Miss Roseann Youngman Oundle G.C. won the Midlands Division 3 Abraham
Trophy, in the National Final she won Best Gross winning a small trophy and ELGA
pin. [Abraham Trophy is a nett competition].
Qualified for the English Girls Championship at Sheringham G.C.
Selected for England Regional Training Squad.
Miss Alison McArthur Northampton G.C. won the Four Counties Championship.
The sad death of Mrs K. Swannell Northampton and Northants. Co. G.C. age 96
years Past County Captain in 1955 and County President in 1974.
First Millennium Ball held at Wickstead Park, Kettering, 300 attended from all clubs in
the County.
The Millennium Committee raised £15,000 in the first year.
Miss Roseann Youngman selected by ELGA to play in the U16 Scottish
Championship at Drumoig G.C.
Winner of the Midlands Schools Championship at Chesterfield G.C. unable to play in
Final because of exams.
Winner of the England Schools U16 Championship setting a course record at Blankney
G.C. [Gross 73 and 70].
Winner of the U21 Prince of Wales Challenge Trophy at Woburn G.C. [Duchess
course] Trophy held at Woburn.
Selected for the U18 England Elite Squad.
Qualified for the Junior Tour Final at Chart Hills G.C. unfortunately had to forgo this as
date clashed with 1st England Elite Training date.
Selected to play in match - U18 England Girls v U16 England Boys at Parkstone
G.C.Devon.
Selected North of England U16 Amateur Strokeplay Championship at Pannal G.C. for
ELGA Team, qualified 36 holes 4th of girls 2nd of English girls.

Miss Kelly Hanwell winner of the Midlands Ladies Championship held at

COUNTY LADIES TEAM beat Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire at
COUNTY WEEK played at Scraptoft G.C. Leics. Team go forward to the SUBDIVISIONAL FINALS at Sherwood Forest G.C. Notts. Unfortunately the team lost
out by 1/2 point to Warwickshire who were the winners.
Miss Roseann Youngman invited to a Masterclass at Celtic Manor G.C. 8 girls from
G.B. & I was invited. Swing analysis from Butch Harman and brothers, followed by a
competition.
Winner of the Midland Girls Championship at Worfield G.C. [Course record Gross 71]

Mrs Gill Spencer Wellingborough G.C. presented with a Silver Clock from Midlands
ELGA for her fine organisation of the Coronation Medal Final held at Wellingborough
G.C.
Miss Carol Gibbs selected to play for the Senior Midlands ELGA Team v North, South
and Scotland.
Carol awarded the Chronicle and Echo Sports Volunteer of the month for services to
Sport.
COUNTY LADIES TEAM beat Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire at
COUNTY WEEK played at Coxsmoor G.C. Nottinghamshire. TEAM PRESENTED
WITH THE ROSIE BOWL.
SUB-DIVISIONAL FINALS beat Cambs. & Hunts., Warwickshire and
Caernarvonshire & Anglesey at Copt Heath G.C. Warwickshire, a wonderful
achievement. TEAM PRESENTED WITH TROPHY.
NATIONAL COUNTY MATCHPLAY FINAL at Brancepath Castle, Co. Durham,
teams were Yorkshire, Hampshire and Gloucestershire - Yorkshire were the winners.
COUNTY JUNIOR TEAM beat Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and Lincolnshire to
win through to the Midlands ELGA Matchplay Final at Stoke Rochford G.C. teams
competing Staffordshire, Northamptonshire and Bedfordshire. Winners were
Staffordshire with Northamptonshire runners-up.
Mrs Shirley Chapman Wellingborough G.C. appointed Chairman of Midlands
Division ELGA.
Miss Kelly Hanwell won Best Qualifying round in the Midland Ladies Championship
at Stagsden G.C. Bedfordshire. Kelly and Roseann won the magnificent Team Trophy
[Trophy hadn't been won by Northamptonshire since 1939].
Miss Roseann Youngman selected to play in the French U21 Championship at St.
Cloud, France.
Miss Karin Poolton Overstone Park G.C. won the Midlands Area 3 Abraham
Trophy.
Miss Emma Parr winner of the 4 Counties Championship at Northants. Co. G.C.

LADIES COUNTY TEAM awarded Northamptonshire Team of the year for their
outstanding achievements, they beat Challengers from the world of Rugby, Hockey and
Cricket went on to represent the County in the BBC East Midlands Sports Awards.

ELGA Team v North, South and Scotland.
Miss Alexandra Banham 17 years qualified for the Midland Schools Final at Belton

Warwickshire G.C.
Selected to play for England Schools versus Scotland Schools at Hillside G.C. [England
won match].
Miss Charley Hull 12 years won nett Cup at the 4 Counties Championship at Wollaton

COUNTY LADIES TEAM attended the Sports Award dinner at De Montfort Hall,
Charley Hull received a judge’s award for special achievement.
E.L.G.A. E.G.M. vote carried, will be renamed EWGA and become a company.
Northamptonshire will now be part of Midland South Region Buckinghamshire,
Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Warwickshire and Worcestershire & Herefordshire.

Ladies County Team.

Hull, Kettering G.C. Age 11 years won the Four Counties Scratch Cup at
Peterborough Milton G.C. Gross 78. Northamptonshire won the best gross team
Quaich Trophy Gross 142 Charley Hull, Meghan McLaren & Rebecca Gee both of
Wellingborough G.C.
Wellingborough G.C. was the venue for the first Midland South Inter-County
Matchplay week 21st to 27th June. Counties taking part were Northamptonshire,
Warwickshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire,
Worcestershire & Hereford and Oxfordshire a great week, the host club, members
and staff were highly praised for the smooth running of this prestigious event. The
winners were Warwickshire runners-up Northamptonshire.
Miss Charley Hull won the English Girls U13 Championship at Ramside G.C. Durham
Gross 75, 73, 81
COUNTY LADIES 2ND TEAM captained by Pat Silburn won the 4 Counties
Matchplay Final held at Luffenham Heath G.C. Leics.
Mary Brenstuhl & Gina Rudkin, Elton Furze G.C. winners of the Regional Ping 4
Ball Tournament of Britain scoring 48 pts. [a runaway victory]
Kathy Murphy of Kettering GC won the Goodyear Cup at Kettering GC
Kirstie Jennings & Kelly Hanwell, Northamptonshire County GC won the Daily
Mail Foursomes competition, final staged at Dalmahoy
The Ladies County Championship format changed from 16 best scores qualify, then
first matchplay winners go on to the Championship proper and losers into the Swannell
Salver to first 8 best gross progress to the Championship and second best 8 gross go into
the Swannell Salver.
This decision by the Executive Committee was made because for the first time the
matchplay stages of the Championship will be held over the weekend. [The
Championship originally was this format].
Intermediate Championship introduced for handicaps 12-20 18 hole medal, 8 leading
gross qualifiers then play in match play stages for Championship.
Cecil Leitch handicap limit reduced from 36 to 30
Rebecca Gee Wellingborough GC won the Prince of Wales Trophy at Woburn GC.
She also had a new ladies course record at Wellingborough GC of 70 (-4).
Charley Hull won the Four Counties Cup, was runner up in the English Girls Under 13
Championship, won the Champion of Champions competition and was runner up in the
Prince of Wales Trophy.
Meghan MacLaren Wellingborough GC won the Midland Girls Under 15
Championship, was runner up in the Faldo Series, runner up in Midland Schools
National Championship where she equalled the course record of 68 at Kirby Muxloe
GC.
Gillian Curley NCGA won the Senior Women’s Northern Regional Tournament over
36 holes by 7 shots.
Vera White won award as Lady Volunteer of the Year from Northamptonshire
Partnership
Champion of Champions – Charley Hull U16 winner, Meghan MacLaren U18 winner
Millenium Committee disbanded all funds passed to the newly formed
Northamptonshire Partnership
Sad Death of Muriel Curtis Past County Captain and County Treasurer
Seniors Championship introduced for a trial of one year.
Buggies allowed in all county competitions with the exception of Championships, Cecil
Leitch and Scratch matches unless medical certificate produced.
Distance Measuring Devices allowed in all county competitions but not national
regional, 1st or 2nd team matches.
Scratch League format changed from two divisions with semi final and final to one
league, due to reduced number of clubs
Awarding of County Colours changed for 1st team to three wins in County Week or
County Finals, either foursomes or singles and for 2 nd team to three wins in 2nd team
matches.
Judy Ray, County President received the Services to Golf/Lifetime Achievement
Award by the English Golf Partnership
Meghan MacLaren aged 16 won the English Schools Championship at John O’Gaunt,

Bedfordshire. She was the winner of the Four Counties Championship with a gross 74
following a play off. She also won the Midlands South Ladies Regional Championship,
and the Midland South Girls Regional Championship at Northamptonshire County by
six shots with rounds of 80 and 75, total 155. She Captained the English Schools
Annual International against Scotland at Fairhaven and played against Wales schools at
St Pierre. She represented England in the annual U16 mixed match against Spain at
Pannal, Yorkshire, in August and was the top English girl at the North of England U16
championship at Pannal, Yorkshire.
Charley Hull aged 14 years won the scratch 36 hole Leveret Trophy at Formy Ladies in
Liverpool. She also won the Hampshire Rose ladies scratch competition at North Hants
Golf Club near Fleet by five shots. She was joint second in the Whittington Ladies trophy
with a 36 hole score of 149 and was runner up in the Astor Salver with a total 36 hole score
of 139, rounds of 2 under and 4 under par. She represented England in the Ladies Home
Internationals.
County Ladies team captained by Pat Silburn won all their matches against
Warwickshire, Hereford & Worcestershire, Bucks, Berks, and Oxfordshire at Intercounty
Week held at Goring and Streatley GC and were presented with the Doris Abraham trophy.
They went on to represent Midlands South at the National Finals held at Kedleston Park,
Derbyshire where they came 6th.
Kelly Hanwell (NCGA) turned professional
Jennifer Baughan (Northampton GC) qualified for the Abraham Trophy
Georgina Ivens won Best Net Cup at 4 Counties Championship with net 64
Scratch League trophy format changed to clubs playing each other on the same day at
neutral course.
Coronation Medals and Handicap Foursomes discontinued
Seniors Championship after 1 year trial to become regular event ,county committee
to provide medal trophy
County Mixed Greensomes format changed to 4BBB and handicap limit 24 men 30

Represented England in the Spirit International Amateur Championship in
Whispering Pines ,Texas
County Ladies team captained by Ros Cuthbert won Intercounty Week against
Warwickshire, Hereford & Worcestershire, Bucks, Berks, and Oxfordshire held at The
Worcestershire GC and were presented with the Doris Abraham trophy. They went on to
represent Midlands South at the National Finals held at Thorndon Park, Essex where they
came 6th .

distance measuring devises(DMDS) will be allowed in all EWGA competitions and

Charley Hull won the Harder Hall Womens Invitational on the US Amateur
Orange Blossom Tour in Florida 7th Jan , Charley has followed her win with a 3rd in the
South Atlantic women's amateur championship at Oceanside Country Club, Ormond
Beach in Forida on the 14th Jan.
Charley Hull has been named in a Great Britain and Ireland preliminary squad of 12 players
for the 37th Curtis Cup match against the United States at The Nairn Golf Club—Charlie
England’s world number nine, will not be considered for the Curtis Cup team by the LGU
after accepting an invitation to play in the first women’s Major of the year.
Meghan MacLaren won The Silver Tee Award presented by Golf England
02 March 2012 The England team that included Charley Hull and Meghan
MacLaren won the Nations Cup at the Spanish women’s amateur championship at El Valle.
Charley Hull, will play in the Kraft Nabisco Championship in California on March 29th
after accepting an invitation to play in the first women’s Major of the year
Charley Hull and Meghan MacLaren will represent England in the French Lady Junior
Championship at St Cloud, near Paris, from April 5-9.
